Your Role in Supporting Our Members:

As Manager, Strategic Communications, your primary role will be to lead the delivery of our organization's external communications strategy at an enterprise level, and, as needed, lead the delivery of high-performing internal communications. You'll act as a trusted strategic advisor to senior executives and guide complex and high-impact communications to tell Vancity's story and support our members, growth and values-based innovation.  Your expertise, leadership skills and hands-on delivery of quality communications will support your success in this role.

This is a permanent, full-time role based at our Vancity head office and will report directly to the Director, Enterprise Communications. While this position provides a hybrid work arrangement, you will be expected to be on-site as business demands.

How You'll Make an Impact:

  • Leading the delivery of the enterprise external communications strategy, aligning internal and external communications with organizational priorities, values, and long-term business goals
  • Serving as a strategic advisor to senior and executive leaders, providing counsel on messaging, timing, and approach for complex, sensitive, or high-stakes communications across employee, public, and stakeholder audiences
  • Leading, coaching, and developing a team of external communications professionals, fostering strong capability, accountability, and a culture of excellence
  • Overseeing the creation of clear, engaging, and impactful content that helps employees and external audiences understand the organization's direction, navigate change, and connect to our mission and vision
  • Building strong, influential partnerships across the organization to anticipate communications needs and deliver integrated, consistent messaging across internal, external, and leader-led channels
  • Establishing and upholding high standards for tone of voice, messaging, and visual identity across all communications platforms and audiences
  • Championing creative and innovative approaches to communications, leveraging technology, visuals, and emerging media to drive engagement with employees and external stakeholders
  • Leading issues and crisis communications in partnership with change management, human resources, legal, and other business leaders, anticipating employee and public sentiment and mitigating reputational risk
  • Defining governance, processes, and guidelines that enable efficient, consistent, and scalable communications across the enterprise
  • Measuring and evaluating communications effectiveness, using insights and data to continuously refine strategy and strengthen engagement with internal and external audiences
  • Providing senior-level project leadership for key initiatives that improve organizational efficiency and enable coordinated, company-wide communications

What You'll Bring to the Team:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Communications or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in corporate, internal, or external communications, including demonstrated people leadership
  • Strong experience supporting media relations and crisis communications in complex or high-profile environments
  • Advanced stakeholder management skills across complex, matrixed organizations
  • Professional accreditation with CPRS or IABC

You'll Thrive Here If You Are:

  • Strategic and enterprise-minded – you are able to connect business priorities to clear, meaningful employee communications
  • A trusted executive advisor- you are comfortable navigating complexity, sensitivity, and high-stakes conversations with senior leaders
  • People-centred and employee-first – you bring empathy, inclusivity, and accessibility into every communication decision
  • An influential collaborator – you are skilled at aligning diverse stakeholders and driving consistency in a matrixed organization

We value lived experience, so if you are interested in this role, we encourage you to apply even if you feel your skills don't perfectly align with those listed.

What You'll Earn:

This role offers a salary range of $108,500 to $146,900 per annum. The base pay offered may vary depending on factors such as relevant qualifications, skills, previous experience, and internal equity. As part of our total rewards package, employees may also be eligible for our annual incentive program, subject to program eligibility requirements.
