Position Summary
Azhadi Vineyards is seeking an experienced, hands-on Facilities Manager to oversee the maintenance, safety, janitorial standards, and operational integrity of all winery buildings, grounds, and systems. This role is especially critical during the transition period from construction to full operations, ensuring a seamless handover from contractors to the operations team.
The Facilities Manager will validate that all building systems are commissioned, documented, safe, and transitioned into ongoing maintenance programs. Once operational, the role oversees daily facility operations across the restaurant, tasting room, production building, event spaces, parking areas, and surrounding property. This includes responsibility for the janitorial team and the landscaping worker to ensure exceptional cleanliness and grounds presentation aligned with Azhadi's premium brand.
The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable managing people, daily maintenance, long-term planning, safety programs, tools, vehicles, and the entire property lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
Construction Transition & Handover
- Lead the operational transition from construction to steady-state operations.
- Participate in all deficiency walkthroughs, commissioning sessions, and technical demonstrations with contractors and engineers.
- Ensure complete receipt of O&M manuals, warranties, training sessions, and required documentation.
- Build and implement all facility SOPs for the post-construction operational phase.
- Confirm all mechanical, electrical, life-safety, kitchen, and refrigeration systems are fully functional and properly handed over.
Health & Safety (WCB Compliance)
- Develop, implement, and maintain Azhadi's full Health & Safety Program aligned with WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Establish safe-work procedures, hazard assessments, and incident reporting systems.
- Maintain all safety documentation, inspections, and compliance training.
- Oversee emergency preparedness planning and drills.
- Ensure all first-aid stations, eyewash units, extinguishers, and safety signage meet compliance standards.
Facility Operations & Maintenance
- Oversee repairs and preventative maintenance for all winery buildings and systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, mechanical, etc.).
- Conduct regular inspections for cleanliness, functionality, and safety across all spaces.
- Develop preventative maintenance schedules and tracking logs.
- Maintain life-safety system compliance (fire panel testing, alarms, sprinklers, emergency lighting).
Janitorial Program Management
- Oversee janitorial staff responsible for daily cleaning of the restaurant, tasting room, production areas, staff areas, washrooms, and public spaces.
- Develop and maintain cleaning schedules, checklists, and quality standards.
- Ensure janitorial supplies, equipment, and chemicals are properly stocked, stored, and compliant with WHMIS.
- Conduct periodic cleanliness audits and ensure presentation aligns with Azhadi's luxury standards.
- Train janitorial staff on safety, equipment use, and emergency response procedures.
Property & Grounds / Landscaping Oversight
- Supervise the landscape maintenance person/team ensuring premium presentation of all outdoor spaces.
- Oversee grounds upkeep: lawns, irrigation, gardens, pathways, signage, lighting, and waste management.
- Coordinate seasonal operations such as snow removal, storm preparation, leaf cleanup, and pest control.
- Ensure all outdoor event areas remain guest-ready and visually consistent with Azhadi's brand.
Company Vehicles & Tools
- Maintain all company vehicle maintenance schedules, inspections, and safety protocols.
- Procure, inventory, and maintain all company tools and equipment.
- Implement sign-in/out systems to track tool usage and condition.
- Ensure tools remain safe, compliant, and replaced or serviced as needed.
Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain compliance with building codes, fire regulations, and environmental standards.
- Oversee security systems and coordinate required testing and monitoring.
- Lead facility readiness for inspections (health, fire, building, environmental).
Vendor & Contractor Management
- Liaise with contractors, inspectors, and service providers for repairs, upgrades, installations, and inspections.
- Manage service agreements, review performance, and verify quality of work.
- Track work orders, deficiencies, and follow-up until resolution.
Capital Planning & Budgeting
- Assist in planning, costing, and executing capital improvement projects.
- Monitor facilities budgets and track costs associated with maintenance, contracts, and supplies.
- Recommend infrastructure investments, lifecycle planning, and efficiency improvements.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years experience in maintenance, facility management, or property operations; hospitality, winery, or food production experience an asset.
- Strong understanding of building systems and OH&S/WCB compliance.
- Experience supervising staff such as janitorial, grounds, or maintenance personnel.
- Ability to perform light repairs across multiple trades.
- Excellent organizational, documentation, and communication skills.
- Proficiency with maintenance software and digital tracking tools.
- Valid driver's license; certifications such as WHMIS, First Aid, Fall Protection, Building Operator are assets.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
