POSITION SUMMARY:

Technician cooperates in the development and use of analysis, measurement, and Quality tools to ensure quality in all facets of the organization in accordance with company values.

QA technician must have knowledge of HACCP, SQF and GMP. Must have good communication and decision-making skills, be responsible and detail oriented. Must be able to work in a fast-paced, industrial environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Technician monitors the application of programs outlined in Food Safety and Quality manual,

HACCP and SQF programs.

  • Participate actively in plant sanitation and perform pre-operational inspections on production lines.
  • Perform online product analysis, inspection and observation for any deviation to the standard product specifications and formulations. Line inspection includes but not limited to weight checks of products, temperature checks, metal detector checks, code checks, verifying line paperwork in a systematic fashion.
  • Perform incoming raw materials testing and finished product testing. Testing knowledge includes pH, titration, micro sampling, viscosity, temperature measurements, etc.
  • Lead improvement efforts directed at improving product throughput and Quality.
  • Collect samples for micro analysis for all products produced during the shift.
  • Review and verify HACCP and FSEP documentation including CCP monitoring records, production records, shipping and receiving records, sanitation records, pre-shipment records.
  • Assist in HACCP reassessment activities including but not limited to verification of CCP's, validation for CCP's, label verifications, pre-requisite program verifications.
  • Analysis and interpretation of microbiological testing and follow-up actions relating to food safety.

  • Monitor and recognize food safety issues and follow through Hold and Release program as it applies to raw materials and/or finished products. Perform food safety assessments as required.

  • Continuous learning of Food Safety Systems in place.
  • Filing, preparing reports, data entry and performing other related duties as required.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Biology, Chemistry or other related degree
  • Knowledge of GMP's, HACCP and SQF.
  • Scientific method and data gathering skills.
  • Lead others to solutions by being organized, patient and respectful, communication skills.
  • Set priorities and meet those standards.
  • Precision and quality minded.
  • Conflict recognition and resolution.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Patience and attention to detail.

  • Quality Assurance team
  • Production supervisors and team members
  • CFIA inspectors
  • Various Vendors & Service Providers

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • May on occasion be required to support other shifts (i.e. cover for vacation) AM/PM shift

QA technicians

  • Combination of office environment (desk/computer work ), and production environment

(predominantly refrigerated areas but also kitchen area)
