PSYC-1100 Introduction to Psychology – Course Description
This course is designed to provide students with general knowledge about major areas in the field of psychology. As a survey course, the following areas will be emphasized: scientific thinking, research methodology, biological bases of behavior and the organization of the human brain, sensation and perception, consciousness, growth and development, learning, memory, emotions and personality, and psychological disorders. In addition, students will apply these ideas to their experiences of knowing themselves and the world around them.
We are seeking an instructor who brings skill, curiosity, and care to the classroom. In this sessional instructional assignment, you will lead a semester-based course delivered face-to-face for three hours each week, creating a learning space where every student feels supported and able to contribute. You will collaborate with program staff and instructional designers to review and refresh course content and the course syllabus before each term. You will also set up evaluation items and due dates in Blackboard Ultra, ensuring all grade calculations align accurately with the syllabus. During delivery, you will guide students through the course outline and learning outcomes using clear, engaging instruction. You will foster discussion, encourage critical and reflective thinking, and help learners connect theory to real practice. You will also provide timely, meaningful feedback and complete grading in a fair and consistent way. This position is ideal for someone who values inclusive teaching, continuous improvement, and supporting learners to reach their full potential.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Required:
- Master's degree in a related discipline;
- Two or more years of documented teaching experience;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Effective written and oral communication skills;
- Ability to work cooperatively with diverse training and development teams.
Preferred:
- Experience working in a justice & public safety related field;
- BC Instructors certificate or equivalent;
- Experience using Blackboard Ultra and Collaborate or using other learning management systems;
- Experience with curriculum development: course revisions, updating, lesson planning;
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to work under pressure while satisfying student requests and applying relevant program and institutional policies, procedures and guidelines;
- Demonstrated proficiency at the intermediate level in Blackboard, Microsoft Office applications, and web browser application.

Pay listed below is the full amount for the sessional assignment: PSYC-1100 Introduction to Psychology course in the Winter 2026 term commencing January 5, 2026 and is dependent on the number of students in the class.
(Sessional Instructors are eligible to enroll in the College Pension Plan)
- 8–14 students = $4,205.46
- 15–21 students =$5,561.64
- 22+ students = $6,930.84

Position Type:
Sessional Instructors are casual employees with no guarantee of ongoing or regular work. Assignments may be offered in advance of each term or on an ad-hoc basis throughout the term, depending on program needs.

Work Arrangements:
PSYC-1100 Introduction to Psychology is semester-based designated course face-to-face three hours per week in the term, based at the New Westminster Campus. Hybrid work may be considered depending on operational needs and instructional assignment.
