JOB SUMMARY:

Operates a transit bus for the purpose of transporting public passengers on an established operating schedule

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates a transit vehicle ensuring time schedules are adhered to and ensuring safety of passengers and the public; ensures for proper conduct of transit passengersEnsures bus fares are provided, checks for valid tickets, carries out a daily passenger count, changes transit signs on bus stationsCleans the interior and exterior of the transit vehicle by using cleaning supplies and equipmentAssists wheelchair passengers on and off the transit vehicle; assists the elderly and physically challenged on and off the transit vehicle; ensures that wheelchairs and scooters are properly securedAttends division safety talks, crew talks and required safety training; follows safe work procedures; reports hazards, injuries and near missesOperates City vehicles (Class II with Air or lesser)Maintains professional and technical requirements for the positionPerforms related duties as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

High School (Grade 12)Valid BC Class 2 Driver's License with Air EndorsementWHMIS CertificateUp-to-date knowledge of the City's computerized systems, administrative systems and office technology as requiredAbility to approach work and relationships in a culturally sensitive and inclusive manner

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

3 months' experience driving a Class II vehicleor an equivalent combination of experience and education

PAY RATE:

This is a union position with the current pay rate of $33.95 per hour as outlined in the Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 798 Collective Agreement.

HOURS of WORK:

Up to 8 hours per day, up to 40 hours per week. Varied schedule including daytime, evening, and weekend shifts.

Please note: This position is to provide regular service and coverage for absences such as sick and vacation relief. It requires availability for both short-notice and pre-scheduled work.
