Duties:

Reporting to the Associate Registrar, Admissions and Registration, the Dual Credit Coordinator works in partnership with Deans, Associate Deans, and School Districts in the ongoing administration, development and operation of Dual Credit programs at Vancouver Island University.

Under the direction of the Associate Vice-President, Academic, the Registrar, and the Dual Credit Oversight Committees, the Dual Credit Coordinator is responsible for tasks and areas identified by Deans, Dual-Credit oversight committees, Campus Principals, the Mid-Island Partnership and others who are connected to Dual Credit programs.

The Dual Credit Coordinator will create a single point of access for VIU Nanaimo to provide information about, and to assist in the implementation of, dual-credit programming. Additionally, this position will streamline School Districts' overall experience interacting with VIU on dual credit activities.

The Dual Credit Coordinator's duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the primary VIU point of contact for prospective dual credit students, parents, VIU Faculty and staff, and School District personnel, for dual credit activities.
  • Demonstrate a strong service orientation and maintain positive relationships with members of the Mid-Island Partnership (MIP) and internal VIU stakeholders.
  • Exhibit professionalism and a high standard of ethical behaviour.
  • Liaise and collaborate with VIU faculty and staff, VIU regional campuses Administration, VIU Dual Credit governance committees, and School District personnel on the implementation of dual credit programming.
  • Identify and implement strategies to further enhance the dual credit student experience at VIU
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to increase awareness and uptake of dual credit opportunities (e.g., presentations, Parent Advisory Council (PAC) meetings)
  • Collaborates with MIP School District Partners on dual credit information sessions
  • In consultation with key VIU stakeholders, develop and provide student and parent orientations, social events, focus groups and teacher team meetings.
  • Liaise with key stakeholders to enhance awareness of the needs of dual credit students
  • Facilitate referrals to VIU student supports (e.g., tutoring, counseling, accessibility services, etc.) for VIU Dual Credit Students.
  • Contribute to the MIP agreement and operating procedures as needed.
  • Retain Dual Credit records and collaborate on contract templates and formatting.
  • Collaborate and liaise with the Office of Strategic Planning and Initiatives on dual credit data-gathering and reporting.
  • Co-Chairs the MIP Operational Oversight Committee
  • Attend BC Ministry of Education and Child Care dual credit meetings as required
  • Monitors and responds to emails from the dual credit email account.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree (Student Personnel, Social Work, Adult Education, Counselling, Education, or similarly relevant field) from an appropriately accredited institution. Minimum three years demonstrated experience with relevant student program planning, student development, and the organization, implementation and evaluation of student-related initiatives.

  • Demonstrated awareness of, and ability to respond to, the developmental needs of a diverse student population.
  • Demonstrated excellence in communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated excellence in public speaking, group presentations, and group facilitation.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with technology relevant to the position, including Microsoft Office, student information systems, and relational database programs.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License and a confirmed satisfactory driving record.
