Weld Inspector

As a Structural Steel Quality Inspector at Kiwi Newton Group, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality, safety, and compliance of our structural steel fabrication. Based at our Guelph facility, you'll be responsible for inspecting incoming materials, in-process welds, and finished products to ensure they meet project specifications and CSA welding standards. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who takes pride in precision, consistency, and upholding the highest quality standards in a fast-paced structural environment.
Position Details:
- 41 Massey Rd, Guelph, Ontario, Canada, N1H 7M6
- Monday to Friday, 7am-4pm
- Full-time, On-Site within the Fabrication Shop
Primary Responsibilities:
As a Weld Inspector, you will ensure all welding activities and materials comply with applicable codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Remain safety-conscious at all times by following company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
- Wear required PPE and actively promote a strong safety culture
- Inspect incoming subcontracted goods and materials for compliance with project specifications
- Inspect in-process production and final welded products to ensure conformity to CSA welding codes and quality standards
- Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings, specifications, manuals, and procedures
- Complete Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and participate in root cause analysis and corrective action processes
- Act as a champion for Statistical Process Control (SPC) within the structural steel environment
- Work independently under general supervision while collaborating effectively with production teams
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to welding quality and inspection processes
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the department manager
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Accredited CWB Welding Supervisor Certification
- Current and valid CWB CSA W178.2 Level 2 Welding Inspector Certification
- Minimum 3 years of steel welding and/or fitting experience
- 1–3 years of experience as a Quality Inspector in a structural steel environment
- Strong understanding of CSA Welding Codes W47.1 and W59.1
- Ability to read and interpret welding drawings, specifications, and procedures
- CWB FCAW and/or GMAW Flat tickets considered an asset
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment
- Solid communication and documentation skills
