About Amal Unite & Empower
Amal Unite & Empower (AUE) is one of Newfoundland and Labrador's fastest-growing initiatives supporting newcomer success and community integration. Through employment support, employer engagement, DEI initiatives, wellness programming, and community-building activities, AUE empowers newcomers to thrive and helps employers and industry partners build inclusive, diverse workplaces where newcomer talent can succeed.
Since launching in early 2024, AUE has supported hundreds of newcomers and collaborated with employers, government, and community stakeholders across the province. Communications and storytelling are essential to how we share impact, celebrate our communities, and support the development of an inclusive and diverse labour force in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Position Summary
We are seeking a strategic, creative, and highly organized Marketing & Communications Specialist to join our team. This role blends strategic planning, hands-on content creation, visual storytelling, brand coordination, and collaboration across all streams of the program.
The ideal candidate is thoughtful, proactive, values-driven, and excited about producing communications that reflect newcomer experiences, promote inclusive employer practices, and amplify the impact of Amal Unite & Empower.
Key Responsibilities
Marketing & Brand Leadership
- Support and enhance AUE's established marketing and communications strategy.
- Maintain consistent brand voice across all platforms and program areas.
- Strengthen planning, structure, and coordination of marketing initiatives as AUE grows.
- Promote AUE's mission of inclusion, belonging, and newcomer success through strategic messaging across multiple platforms.
Content Creation & Communications
- Draft and edit clear, engaging content for newsletters, social media, employer communications, participant updates, and event promotion.
- Translate complex program details into accessible, meaningful messaging.
- Uphold ethical, respectful, and inclusive storytelling practices when highlighting newcomer experiences or employer experiences.
- Provide communications support across Employment support, Employer Engagement, Wellness, DEI, Intake, and Operations.
Digital Presence & Social Media
- Lead AUE's social media presence using HeyOrca and maintain a content calendar.
- Track analytics and adapt content to strengthen engagement and reach.
- Maintain a cohesive digital brand identity.
Pitch Decks, Presentations & Visual Storytelling
- Design or update pitch decks, employer-facing materials, and program presentations.
- Come up with creative video ideas for promoting events or services via social media platforms.
- Ensure clarity, strong narrative structure, and effective visual communication.
Event Marketing & Promotions
- Promote AUE's frequent events, workshops, and employer sessions by targeting the relevant audience and making sure the content is relatable.
- Ensure consistent messaging and visibility across platforms.
- Support the digital media specialist with designing promotional assets using Canva or Adobe Suite when needed.
Team Collaboration & Internal Coordination
- Collaborate across teams using Asana, Slack, and HubSpot to align communications.
- Provide templates, messaging guidance, and brand support to team members.
- Help streamline internal communications workflows.
DEI-Informed Messaging
- Apply an equity, cultural inclusion, and trauma-informed lens to all content.
- Support employer-focused communications that encourage inclusive hiring.
- Ensure respectful representation of newcomer stories and community voices.
What We're Looking For
Education & Experience
- Diploma or degree in marketing, communications, public relations, design, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience in communications, marketing, or content creation.
- Experience working in fast-paced environments with multiple priorities.
- Experience in copywriting, drafting digital content, pitch decks, and presentations.
Skills & Competencies
- Excellent writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.
- Strong design ability using Canva or Adobe Suite.
- Ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects and timelines.
- Ability to understand program content and translate it into clear messaging.
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
- Creative, proactive, and mission-driven approach to communication.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, high-activity environment.
- Familiarity with Social Media scheduling tools (HeyOrca, Hootesuite etc.), CRM or marketing tools (Hubspot or Mailchimp), Task management tools (Asana and slack) are an asset.
