Job Description

The Mechatronics Integrator will be responsible for the mechanical design of tooling, high speed synchronous motion profiles and integration of the ATS "Symphoni" equipment. This role will require both mechanical design skills, control software and integration skills to bring world-class, high-speed automation to life.

Integration of the equipment on the floor verifying equipment function after the initial design is a major part of the role. The ability to work with a highly motivated, dynamic, multi-disciplined team while using both mechanical and software skills to integrate the equipment is key.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Methodically test, troubleshoot and integrate high-speed servo or pneumatically actuated equipment and other electrical devices.
  • Perform mechanical design engineering calculations with respect to accelerations, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs.
  • Design and develop software programs (PLC) specific to customer and project requirements based on standard ATS programming methods.
  • Produce concepts, working drawings, detail drawings and bills of materials for equipment, sub-assemblies or products using SolidWorks.
  • Design systems with compliance to applicable standards (i.e. OSHA, CE or customer-specific).
  • Debug and commission control systems at our facility, using SolidWorks models and PLC code to verify controls logic and machine function.
  • Work with customers, project managers, designers, toolmakers and electricians to solve problems in order to provide the customer with a complete, functional automation system.
  • Travel as required to customer and supplier sites to perform installation, commissioning and training duties.
  • Ensures that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the ATS Code of Business Conduct.
  • Adheres to all health and safety rules and procedures
Health, Safety and Environmental
  • All employees have the responsibility to work in a safe manner and report any health, safety or environmental concern to their manager or supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Work in compliance with divisional health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Refrain from removing or altering safety devices or guarding unless hazardous energies are controlled through lockout-tagout methods
  • Report any unsafe conditions or unsafe acts
  • Report defect in any equipment or protective device
  • Ensure that the required protective equipment is used for the assigned tasks
  • Attend all required health, safety and environmental training
  • Report any accidents/incidents to supervisor
  • Assist in investigating accidents/incidents
  • Refrain from engaging in any prank, contest, feat of strength, unnecessary running or rough and boisterous conduct
Qualifications

Education:

A post-secondary engineering degree, diploma or equivalent, specializing in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics or control systems.

Experience:

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and PLC programming is required
  • Strong programming, mechanical and electrical problem-solving skills.
  • An understanding of the use of servo motors and pneumatics is required.
  • An understanding of the use of electrical devices. (I.e. switches, load cells, LVDTs, etc.).
  • Experience with high-speed automation (100+ parts per minute) is an asset.
  • A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
