As a Product Designer - Mechanical Systems, in the Forwarder Group,  you will work closely with an established engineering team to enhance existing products and drive new developments. This role will design and develop mechanical engineering designs, drawings, and specifications to build equipment dedicated to the rugged and challenging terrain of the forestry industry. To excel in this role, a combination of technical skills is required, including problem-solving and strong mechanical aptitude. Experience with fluid power systems, engine systems, electrical, and electronic systems, as well as drive train systems is required.Location: 100 Savage Drive, Cambridge, ONDedicated Shift: 8:00am – 4:30pm, Monday – FridayJob DutiesCreate detailed designs, perform calculations, and develop prototypes for mechanical components, ensuring they meet performance, safety, and industry standardsAnalyze and select appropriate materials based on mechanical properties, cost, and manufacturing processesCollaborate and work closely with cross-functional teams including designers/engineers, manufacturing, and quality control, to ensure seamless integration of designs into productionConduct tests such as stress analysis, fatigue testing, and vibration analysis to validate designs and optimize performance, strength, response to stress, and other characteristicsCreate technical documentation, including design specifications and bills of materialsIdentify opportunities for design optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvementsOccasionally participate in hands-on troubleshooting during the fabrication and/or assembly processWhen required, provide field support for equipment troubleshooting and improvementsSkills and Experience A hands-on, creative, self-motivated, passionate person willing to take on diverse and challenging technical tasksSolid understanding of engineering principles, material properties, manufacturing processes, and computer-aided design (CAD) softwareDesign tasks require collaboration with coworkers, and effective communication and reasoning skills are essential when working on projects that involve multiple team membersMust be adaptable to a changing work environment, competing demands and able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected eventsAbility to create visually appealing and user-friendly products balancing aesthetics with practicalityStay updated on emerging technologies and continuously learn to innovate and improve existing solutionsQualificationsBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics preferred.Previous design experience within similar industries to forestry such as mobile heavy-duty equipment used in construction, transportation, mining, oil and gas, material handling, landscaping, land clearing, and farming an asset.Strong understanding of machine design fundamentals, mechanics, materials science, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.Understanding of structural FEA and dynamic simulation of machine components.  Software experience including 3D modeling (SolidWorks) and FEA (Simulation).Design experience in any of the following: Welded steel fabrications for manual and robotic weldingHydraulic cylinders and components, as well as control valve and plumbing details; implementing advanced hydraulic power and electronic control systems, sensors, and controllers.  Diesel engine installations, vehicle drive train transmissions and axle component selectionAttachments to seamlessly integrate with heavy equipment including consideration for load distribution, stress analysis, material selection, and ease of installation.What We Can Offer You Family-Oriented Company: Lots of social events, BBQ's, pizza parties and more Competitive Wages and Profit Sharing: In addition to competitive wages, we celebrate our financial success together through profit sharing. RRSP Matching Program: Retirement planning?
