About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Mortgage Underwriter who is confident, efficient, and eager to join a high-performing, fast-paced mortgage team. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of Canadian mortgage lending practices, particularly with CMHC-insured deals, and thrives working independently in a remote environment.

Salary plus commissions $$$

You will be responsible for reviewing and analyzing residential mortgage applications, ensuring compliance with lender and insurer guidelines, and managing files from submission through to completion. This role also includes some light executive/personal assistant duties, assisting with organization and communication to help streamline operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review, assess, and underwrite mortgage applications in accordance with lender, CMHC, and insurer guidelines
  • Prepare and submit complete files to lenders efficiently and accurately
  • Communicate professionally with clients, lenders, and mortgage agents throughout the process
  • Identify potential risks, discrepancies, and documentation issues early in the process
  • Maintain detailed records and ensure compliance with all industry regulations
  • Coordinate file closings and manage follow-ups to ensure seamless execution
  • Participate in weekly or biweekly check-ins (Zoom, phone, or in-person) to review deals and performance
  • Provide occasional personal/executive support tasks as needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience with proven expertise in CMHC-insured loans
  • Strong working knowledge of mortgage products, credit analysis, debt servicing, and risk evaluation
  • Familiarity with mortgage software systems (e.g., Filogix, Velocity, Lendesk, Merlin, or Expert)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage high volumes of files independently — no supervision required
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and comfortable working in a remote environment
  • Strong sense of accountability, reliability, and integrity
