Reporting to the Program Manager, the Public Health Inspector (PHI) provides public health inspection services to communities, institutions, and individuals throughout the life cycle for the purposes of promotion of health, prevention of illness and injury, and control of infectious diseases.PHIs are actively involved in the delivery of the following Health Protection Programs: Control of Infectious Diseases, Food Safety, Safe Water, Rabies Prevention and Control, Infection Control, Vector Borne Diseases, Climate Change, Personal Services Settings, Risk Assessment and Inspection of Facilities and Health Hazard Management and Prevention. Responsibilities include inspection and enforcement of applicable sections of the Health Protection and Promotion Act, and its regulations and protocols, the Ontario Public Health Standards, and associated Protocols as well as this agency's internal policies and procedures, all of which are amended from time to time. Qualifications:EDUCATION Current Certificate in Public Health Inspection (Canada) C.P.H.I.(C)Four (4) year degree from a post-secondary academic institution that is accredited by the Board of Certification of the Canadian Institute of Public Health Inspectors (CIPHI) or equivalentKNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE Minimum one (1) year on the job experience is preferredSound base in public health theory, principles and concepts and health education and promotion strategies, environmental health, infectious disease control, epidemiology, and biostatisticsKnowledge of applicable legislation (e.g., Health Protection and Promotion Act, Day Nurseries Act, Provincial Offences Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, etc.) and related regulations/standards/manuals/protocols as they relate to environmental and public healthKnowledge of and experience working with Public Health Inspection competenciesKnowledge of the judicial processKnowledge of information systems and other appropriate technologies including computer usage skills (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)SKILLS & ABILITIES Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team including the ability to work collaborativelyInvestigative, observational, and decision-making skillsGood written and verbal communication skills, including facilitation, conflict negotiation and advocacy as well as problem solving skillsTeaching, learning theory and adult education principlesAbility to participate in program development, management, and evaluationAbility to participate in process of community development and development of public policyCommitted to lifelong learning and involvement in professional associations such as CIPHI and its Continuing Professional Competencies ProgramSPECIAL CONDITIONSValid Ontario Driver's license and access to a reliable vehicleAccountable for complying with the Ontario Public Health StandardsAdheres to principles, standards, professional/personal boundaries, and codes of conduct established by CIPHI and organization policiesAbility to work flexible hours when necessary, including in an on-call capacityAdherence with PHIPA and SWPH's policies and procedures Terms and conditions of employment are in accordance with CUPE Collective Agreement. Salary Range: $42.58/hr to $49.84/hr based on verification of qualifications and experience do (70 hours in a two-week period). OMERS pension and a comprehensive Health and Dental benefits package upon completion of the probationary period.A criminal reference check completed within the last six (6) months from a Canadian Police Information Centre (CPID), inclusive of vulnerable sector screening, will be required of the successful candidate.
