Trans Mountain Corporation operates Canada's only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 890,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through a dual pipeline system of more than 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta, British Columbia and Washington state.
Trans Mountain also operates a state-of-the-art loading facility, Westridge Marine Terminal, with three berths providing tidewater access to global markets.

We are seeking a strategic and operational leader to lead our IT Infrastructure and Operations. This role is responsible for the day-to-day reliability, safety, and supportability of our technology environment, while also driving long-term strategy and simplification. The successful candidate will possess strong technical acumen, curiosity, and the ability to create and execute plans that align our infrastructure with the future needs of the IT department.
This role reports to the VP of Information Technology and Real Estate and will lead the efforts around IT technical strategy, operational architecture, design, deployment, management and execution. The functions of this role include network infrastructure, cloud computing, data center operations, disaster recovery, telecommunications, mobility, desk-side and help-desk support and services. In addition, the person in this role will provide oversight to third party outsourcing agreements under this function and for directing infrastructure projects to ensure systems are secure, stay consistent with industry's best practices and meet the ongoing technology needs of the organization.
This role will be located at our Calgary Head office and will be an in-office position.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate as a member of the senior IT management team in setting vision, creating and executing strategy and ensuring a strong performance culture within the IT department.
- Lead the Infrastructure and Support Services, IS&T Governance, and SCADA Services teams.
- Develop and execute strategies to make our environment more reliable, secure, and easier to support.
- Drive architectural planning and continuous improvement, focusing on simplification and operational excellence.
- Create and implement resourcing strategies that identify which core skills and capabilities should be developed and retained in-house, and where niche co-sourcing partnerships can add value—ensuring staff are engaged and empowered, not displaced.
- Oversee technical strategy, design, deployment, management, and execution across network infrastructure, cloud computing, data center operations, disaster recovery, telecommunications, mobility, desk-side and help-desk support.
- Provide oversight to third-party agreements and direct infrastructure projects to ensure systems remain consistent with industry best practices and organizational needs.
- Participate as a member of the IS&T senior management team, contributing to governance and management processes for technology strategy.
- Develop business case justifications and cost/benefit analyses for technology initiatives.
- Define and communicate procedures, policies, and standards for acquiring, implementing, and operating new technologies.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies, anticipating new processes and system alterations.
- Manage capital and operating budgets for infrastructure and telecom, including project economics and justification.
Qualifications And Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related engineering field.
- Advanced degrees (e.g., MBA, MSc in IT Management) are considered an asset.
- Minimum of 10 years in IT leadership roles, with at least 15 years of progressive experience in back-office operations and operational technology (OT).
- Demonstrated success in leading enterprise-wide infrastructure and support services initiatives.
- PMP and ITIL certifications are highly desirable.
- Vendor-specific certifications (e.g., Microsoft, Cisco, AWS) relevant to current technology stack are preferred.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive strategic technology planning.
- Experience in change management and fostering a culture of innovation and continuous improvement.
- Strong understand
- ing of IT infrastructure, cloud computing, disaster recovery, and enterprise architecture.
- Ability to work effectively with senior leadership, business units, and external partners.
- Skilled in stakeholder engagement and translating business needs into technical solutions.
- Experience with ServiceNow or similar ITSM platforms.
- Proficiency in project management tools and enterprise reporting systems.
