Environment Specialist–

Foran Mining Corporation (TSX:FOM) is a forward-thinking mining company redefining the industry. We are seeking an Environment Specialist to join our growing McIlvenna Bay team. This is a position which will be based in Saskatoon from November to April and work a rotation schedule at the McIlvenna Bay Project from April to the end of October.

As part of the ESG Team, the Environment Specialist is a technically skilled and environmentally focused individual who brings passion and expertise in environmental science and monitoring and environmental data analysis and interpretation to the team.

The Environment Specialist is responsible for assisting the ESG Team with the design and implementation of monitoring programs and assisting with organization, analysis, interpretation and reporting on environmental monitoring results in an accurate and timely manner to meet regulatory and internal requirements. During the field season, the Environment Specialist is responsible to execute the environmental monitoring program in collaboration with the on-site team. Key monitoring elements include air quality, water quality and flows, groundwater levels and quality, soil quality, vegetation quality, waste rock and tailings geochemistry, wildlife, wetlands, noise, and vegetation species including weeds. In this role, the Environment Specialist will have the opportunity to collaborate with other ESG team members and third parties to ensure strong environmental outcomes for the McIlvenna Bay Project.

The Environment Specialist will be a self starter with strong initiative and the ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure and dynamic environment. The Environment Specialist will be capable of balancing competing factors to achieve results in a way that builds trust and will have a solution focused mindset.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support the development and maintenance of environmental monitoring data and monitoring procedures to ensure accuracy, traceability, and timely reporting.
  • Assist in the analysis and interpretation of environmental monitoring results to identify trends in a timely manner and assist in developing follow up recommendations
  • Assist in the preparation of clear and accurate reports, technical memos and other written documentation to support regulatory and internal requirements
  • Assist in providing technical support on environmental compliance and conformance, including interpretation of regulations, permit conditions, and company standards.
  • Execute the environmental monitoring and inspection program from April to October including monitoring of construction, operations, water supply, untreated and treated water and aspects of the environment including surface water (quality and quantity), groundwater (quality and quantity), air quality, soil quality, vegetation and weeds, wetlands, noise, woodland caribou and wildlife
  • Ensure appropriate supply of equipment, instruments and materials for monitoring including sampling materials/ inventory for safe execution of the environmental monitoring program
  • Operate, maintain and calibrate environmental monitoring equipment and instruments
  • Appropriately prepare and submit and track samples for analysis
  • Adhere to safety protocols and use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during fieldwork.
  • Promote a culture of safety and environmental awareness within the organization.

Job Qualifications and Skills:

  • Diploma in natural or physical sciences, environmental technology, or other related discipline is required. A degree in natural or physical sciences, environmental engineering, or other related discipline is considered an asset.
  • Three years experience in environment monitoring, data analysis, interpretation and reporting is required however a combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience in the mining sector experience an asset.
  • Excellent verbal/written communication, organizational and time management skills, attention to detail and the ability to operate with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office suite of programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook)
  • Experience with environmental data management systems and sampling equipment
  • Valid class 5 driver's license and ability to operate a boat, UTV, and haul a trailer. Ability to operate an argo is considered an asset.
  • Understanding of environmental legislation in Canada and Saskatchewan is considered an asset.

Compensation and Benefits:

We offer a competitive starting salary range of $70,000 - $87,500/year based on experience and qualifications. Annual discretionary short term incentive award at a percentage of base salary, rewarding exceptional contributions to team and company success.
