Roam Transit is committed to supporting both residents and visitors by delivering year-round and seasonal transit services to those wishing to explore the Bow Valley region without the use of a private vehicle. The organization plays a critical role in enhancing mobility, reducing environmental impact, alleviating traffic congestion, and improving the overall transit experience across the region.
What We're Looking For:
Roam Transit is seeking Transit Operators for the upcoming 2026 season Reporting to the Operations Manager, Transit Operators are responsible for the safe operation of a variety of transit vehicles and must follow schedule guidelines, sometimes under adverse weather and traffic conditions and challenging circumstances. Transit operators are required to learn and follow all of Roam Transit's safety and operational procedures.
Responsibilities:
Provide excellent customer service to all customers of BVRTSC
Operate all Roam Transit buses and vehicles in a safe, courteous manner
Accept fares according to the fare schedule
Provide reliable and efficient public transit service
Attend all required training and staff meetings as requested
Communicate clearly and efficiently with operations team when required
Perform all Pre & Post Trip requirements and report any issues to dispatch
Report all required accidents and incidents as per policies and procedures
Properly operate all the electronic technology applications on the bus
Responsible for the wellbeing of the bus and passengers at all times during your shift
Additional related tasks as required
Qualifications:
Education Requirement:
- High School Diploma required.
Experience:
- Applicants are required to have a minimum of a Class 5 Licence
- Class 1 and 2 will be considered an asset
- Q endorsement (airbrakes) considered an asset
- Minimum 2 years customer service experience
- Previous transit experience is considered an asset
Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively in English
Ability to speak a second language will be considered an asset
Ability to handle cash and operate electronic equipment
Familiarity with the Roam public transit service considered an asset
Customer service focused with an ability to work professionally with the public
Knowledge of the Bow Valley area considered an asset
Ability to handle stressful situations in a composed manner
Ability to work both in a team and independent environment
Other Requirements/Conditions:
Minimum of 18 years of age
Must have a valid Alberta Driver's Licence and clean drivers abstract. (No more than 3 demerits in the past 2 years)
Must be legally able to work in Canada.
Must submit a clear Criminal Record Check with a Vulnerable Record Check
Must be able to obtain all the necessary operating licenses and permits to legally operate a municipal transit bus
Must be able to work shift schedule which includes evenings, weekends, Statutory holidays, early mornings, and late nights
Must have reliable transportation to and from both Banff and Canmore
- Transit Operators are required to be flexible and work various shifts (day shifts, evening shifts, and weekends)
Compensation & Benefits:
- $29.00/hour - Trainee – Class 2
$30.00/hour - After first in-service shift - Class 2
