Roam is seeking a Bus/Facility Maintenance Specialist to support Roam Transit's fleet of 40 buses and assist with general facility upkeep. Responsibilities include day-to-day maintenance tasks, seasonal upkeep, and facility repairs, all performed in compliance with Roam Transit's health and safety policies to maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment.

Responsibilities:

Fleet Support duties:

  • Assist the Maintenance Program Manager with preventative and corrective bus maintenance tasks such as wheel retorques, changing wiper blades, cleaning AC filters from buses, topping up fluids when necessary, and plugging in Electric Buses.
  • Perform routine upkeep of bus bike racks, wash bay equipment and vehicle accessories.
  • Inspect, clean and help organize bus tires, windshields, and parts storage.
  • Support the upkeep of 6 non-revenue Roam passenger vehicles.
  • Support upkeep and adjustments of the bus wash system (e.g. brushes, fluid levels, filters).
  • Maintain and track a small parts inventory ensuring frequently needed parts and accessories (e.g., wipers, bulbs, trim pieces) are on hand when required.
  • May involve moving buses within the yard, conducting road tests, and operating larger fleet vehicles as required.

Facility and Equipment Maintenance:

  • Support repair, maintenance, and periodic inspections of garage infrastructure including powered gates, lighting and hose reels.
  • Assist with minor building and infrastructure upkeep/maintenance at our staff accommodations and office spaces.
  • Identify and correct deficiencies and advise the Maintenance Program Manager of potential problems or risks.
  • Assist with basic plumbing, carpentry and electrical tasks as required.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the maintenance bays and exterior storage areas, ensuring they are free of debris and obstructions.
  • Perform seasonal upkeep tasks (e.g. minor snow shoveling or sanding around doors, drainage grates).

Health & Safety Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to Roam Transit's safety policies, wear required PPE at all times, and observe all applicable provincial and federal regulations, environmental standards and workplace safety protocols.
  • Follow safe work procedures (SWP) for tools, lifts, wash bay equipment etc.
  • Participate in hazard assessments and safety meetings.
  • Report unsafe conditions or incidents immediately to the Maintenance Program Manager.

The Bus/Facility Maintenance Specialist may perform other duties as required and assigned by the Maintenance Program Manager to support fleet, facilities, and operational needs.

Qualifications:

Education Requirement:

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Technical or vocational training in fleet or vehicle maintenance, facility maintenance, automotive technology, or a related trade is considered an asset (e.g., Journeyman Heavy Duty Equipment Technician or apprentice experience as an HET).
  • A combination of education and work experience will also be considered.

Experience:

  • General mechanical aptitude and experience with hand/power tools.
  • Basic understanding of building systems (electrical, HVAC and plumbing).

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:
