We're Seeking new directors for our Board of Directors - Secretary

Assalamu alaikum

Siraj Institute is taking steps to become one of Canada's most trusted and impactful charities through transparency and good governance. We are looking to raise the standards by seeking highly qualified directors. A Secretary is needed to join our Board of Directors to begin responsibility by January 2026. This will be critical to advance our vision of building the leaders this Ummah deserves.

Key Details
:

* Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LLB) required, or a Chartered Governance Professional (GPC.D) designation.

* Bachelor's degree in law, public administration, business, or a related field.

* 15+ years of experience in senior administrative, legal, or governance roles, including 5+ years in the charitable sector.

* Expert in corporate governance, compliance, and the laws governing Canadian charities (e.g., Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act).

* Deep hands-on knowledge of board procedures, official minute-taking, records management, and regulatory filings for non-profits

.

* Must be a team player.

* Strong governance, compliance, and risk management expertise.

* Understanding of Islamic principles related to governance is a must.

* Fluency in English or French required.

* Must be willing to travel to Ottawa at least once per quarter for in-person board meetings.

Note
: In accordance with Canadian laws, this is an unpaid position with fiduciary duties (reasonable expenses reimbursed).

Preferred Assets
:

* Experience in organizations recognized for compliance and governance excellence.

* Experience in a legal or governance capacity for public or large postsecondary institutions.

* Experience as a director on the board of a charitable organization is an asset.

* Familiarity with Sharia compliance standards as they relate to organizational governance is highly desirable.

* Any additional language spoken by our staff (Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Somali, or Turkish) is desirable.
