Founded in 1960, the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa (YSB) is one of the largest and most comprehensive non-profit agencies in Ottawa and a registered charity. It provides mental health services, employment programs, emergency shelter, community, health and housing services, and justice programs to youth in the Ottawa area, serving between 2,500 and 3,000 at‑risk individuals aged 12+ and their families every month. YSB employs 400 caring professionals in a unionized environment in over 21 locations across Ottawa.
As a member of the senior management team, the Director of Operations is a key strategic partner to the Chief Executive Officer at the Youth Services Bureau of Ottawa (YSB). This role provides high-level operational leadership, coordination, and execution support to ensure organizational alignment, operational excellence, and delivery on YSB's mission and strategic priorities. The Director of Operations works closely with program and administration leaders across the organization, serving as a connector, problem-solver, and advisor to advance organizational priorities and embed equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in all areas of operation
Key Responsibilities
Strategic and Operational Leadership
- Partner with the CEO to monitor, track, and advance strategic initiatives and organizational priorities ensuring they reflect YSB's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Provide operational insights, analysis, and recommendations to support effective decision-making by the CEO and senior leadership team.
- Anticipate operational challenges, identify opportunities for improvement, and support the implementation of solutions across YSB.
- Lead cross-functional projects that require coordination between multiple departments, ensuring alignment and timely execution.
- Oversee the planning, allocation, and coordination of organizational resources to ensure programs and administrative functions operate effectively and within budget.
Organizational Coordination and Integration
- Ensure effective communication and follow-through on decisions made by the CEO and Board of Directors and promoting the organization's commitment to EDI
- Support the CEO in preparing for board meetings, executive leadership meetings, and external engagements by synthesizing information, developing briefing notes, and monitoring action items.
- Facilitate collaboration across departments, breaking down silos and ensuring organizational goals are advanced cohesively.
- Serve as a thought partner to the CEO, offering perspective and analysis on organizational performance, trends, and emerging risks.
Governance and Accountability
- Track and monitor organizational performance metrics, including EDI-related indicators, ensuring accountability to strategic and operational goals.
- Ensure key reports, evaluations, and deliverables are produced accurately and on time for funders, partners, and the Board.
- Support organizational compliance with policies, procedures, and external regulations.
External Engagement and Representation
- Represent the CEO and YSB in select internal and external meetings, committees, and partnerships as delegated.
- Build strong relationships with external partners and stakeholders to enhance YSB's operational effectiveness and community impact.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Health Administration, Social Work, or related field (Master's degree an asset).
- Minimum 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience, ideally in the non-profit, public, or social services sector.
- Strong understanding of organizational operations, governance, and project management.
- Ability to apply an EDI and anti-racist lens to operational decision-making, policy development, and staff engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, influence others, and build consensus across diverse teams.
- Exceptional organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.
- High level of discretion, sound judgment, and commitment to YSB's mission, values, and principles of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Bilingualism would be considered an asset

Additional Requirements:
- Successful applicants will be required to provide a Police Records check obtained within the past six (6) months, as a condition of employment with YSB.
- To confirm language proficiency required for this position, successful candidates may be requested to undergo an oral and written assessment conducted by a third-party provider, arranged by YSB. Candidates must meet the minimum required linguistic profile before their employment start date. Formal education may be considered as sufficient demonstration of language proficiency, but is subject to review.
