Security & Google Workspace Automation Engineer (Remote, LATAM)
Remote - US | Contract
Our client is a fast-growing health-tech organization operating in a regulated environment and handling sensitive patient data. Following a formal security assessment, they now need a hands-on Security & Google Workspace Automation Engineer to implement, automate, and operate security controls across Google Workspace and related systems.
This is a 6-month contract with strong potential to extend long-term. The role is fully remote; candidates must be based in Latin America. Strong English communication skills (B2+ or higher) are required.
Responsibilities
Own Google Workspace & email security: enforce MFA and strong authentication; harden admin roles and access; tune Drive sharing and external collaboration; manage DMARC/SPF/DKIM and advanced mail filtering for high-risk mailboxes.
Build automation & systems: design scripts and workflows (Apps Script, APIs, automation platforms, SIEM integrations) around user lifecycle, access changes, security alerts, and periodic reviews so controls are repeatable, not one-off projects.
Run day-to-day security operations: review and tune alerts from Google Security Center, email security, endpoints, and gateways.
Secure endpoints, networks & BYOD: enforce baseline controls for laptops and workstations (EDR/AV, disk encryption, configuration management); configure gateway protections and network segmentation; support BYOD/mobile policies and MDM or app-level protections.
Strengthen backup, DR & resilience: operationalize the disaster recovery plan; ensure backups for PHI and critical datasets are configured, monitored, tested, and documented; follow through on improvements after DR exercises.
Support governance, compliance & awareness: provide evidence for HIPAA/PCI/security reviews; ensure technical controls match documented policies; help run phishing simulations and security awareness campaigns; maintain structured incident and exception tracking.
Experience & Technical Requirements
5+ years in security engineering, systems administration, or SecOps with a strong focus on implementation and operations.
Hands-on expertise with Google Workspace administration, including security, identity, and Drive/Docs/Sheets/Meet configuration and sharing policies.
Solid experience with email security, security monitoring, and user access management across SaaS and endpoints.
Experience automating tasks using Google Apps Script, APIs, or similar scripting/automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Python, or automation platforms).
Experience working in regulated or sensitive environments, ideally healthcare / health-tech / PHI or similarly regulated sectors.
Demonstrated ability to take a security roadmap or policy set and turn it into concrete, stable configurations and operating routines.
Comfortable operating with a high degree of autonomy: propose solutions, design automations, and implement them end-to-end.
Nice-to-Have
Google Professional Certifications.
Security / Governance: CISSP, CISM, CCSP, HCISPP, Security+, or GIAC certifications (e.g., GSEC, GCWN, GMON).
Of Note
You must maintain a secure, private workspace with reliable internet; a company-issued laptop and/or additional endpoint controls may be required.
HIPAA and security/privacy training will be required before your start date.
Completed background checks will be required if selected.
As a winning candidate, you may be asked to disclose your engagement with DevEngine as a primary client on your LinkedIn profile, subject to mutual agreement.
We appreciate your interest and will carefully review all applications. Due to high volume, individual feedback may not always be possible.
