2nd Class Marine Engineer

Position Overview:
As a 2nd Class Engineer, you will play a
critical role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation of our
vessels. This full-time, year-round position includes an active sailing season
from May to December, followed by four months of essential overhaul and refit work
during the off-season. Operations are based from the ports of Wood Islands, PE,
and Caribou, NS.
Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer, you
will be responsible for the over-all maintenance, repair, and cleanliness of
all machinery and equipment aboard the vessel. The 2nd Engineer is
also in-charge of all the operational engineers and the crew of the engine room.
This role demands a commitment to safety, operational excellence, and teamwork,
contributing to the overall success of Northumberland Ferries Limited's
operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Is the Engineer of the watch, watches in the machinery
spaces and, in the absence of the Chief Engineer. - Perform maintenance, inspections and overhaul of
machinery as directed by the Chief Engineer. - Supervise and delegate work to all personnel assigned to
the watch. - Reporting defects or irregularities to the Chief Engineer
immediately. - Understands and adheres to pollution regulations.
- Maintain vessel machinery spare parts inventory and order
new parts when required. - Ensure the Planned Maintenance System (PMS) and Spare
Part Inventory systems are updated regularly. - Maintain accurate logbooks, maintenance records, and oil
record books. - Be well-versed with firefighting equipment, alarm
systems, safety protocols, and the Safety Management System (SMS). - Comply with company policies, including the Uniform
Policy, Workplace Harassment and Violence Prevention Policy, Smoke-Free
Workplace Policy, Pet Policy, and Collective Agreements.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid Certificate of Competency as a 2nd Class
Marine Engineer. - Valid Seafarers Medical Certificate and all other
relevant certificates required to maintain CoC. - Working knowledge of critical operations and SMS
documentation. - Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proven track record of safe operations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience with passenger services (an asset).
- Canadian citizenship or permanent resident status is
required for positions in Canada.
