Options Community Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to delivering social services across the Southern Fraser region (Surrey, Delta, White Rock and Langley) from early childhood to seniors. Our comprehensive range of programs and services relies on collaborative relationships with individuals, businesses, community groups and government bodies to create focused, effective and responsive resources for the community.
Position OverviewAre you passionate about making a real difference in the lives of individuals during times of transition? We're looking for dedicated, empathetic individuals to help provide crucial support to those in need. As a Transition House Worker, you'll empower clients by offering guidance, a safe space, and essential resources to navigate challenging moments. If you're ready to provide compassionate care and make an impact, we want to hear from you
Reporting to the Program Manager, the Transition House Worker will provide guidance to clients in accessing confidential services such as financial aid, legal assistance, housing, and counseling. Key duties will include the following:
- Screening & Intake: Assess prospective clients for suitability, provide immediate safety assessments and short-term plans, and offer crisis intervention via support phone lines.
- Shelter & Basic Needs: Create a safe environment, ensure access to nutritious food, hygiene products, and culturally specific items, and maintain hygienic living conditions.
- Intake & Orientation: Complete intake/discharge documentation, orient clients to program expectations, and provide non-discriminatory services to all.
- Safety & Security: Maintain safety, respond to critical incidents, and administer First Aid/CPR as needed.
- Children & Parenting: Collaborate with mothers on children's needs, offer respectful parenting support, and develop safety plans for children.
- Support for Women & Children: Provide woman-centered support, educate on abuse and rights, and offer referrals, supportive listening, and language interpretation.
- Advocacy & Referrals: Advocate for women's needs with community agencies and address barriers to accessing services.
- Inter-Agency Collaboration: Build relationships with community and government agencies, represent the house in committees, and raise awareness about domestic violence.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate, confidential client records and document program-related expenses.
The ideal candidate will possess a Diploma in a related human or social service field, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong communication and crisis management skills, coupled with a genuine passion for assisting those in crisis, are key to success in this role.
A strong knowledge and understanding of the challenges faced by women, youth, and children affected by gender-based violence, along with the ability to provide support using a non-judgmental, trauma-informed approach, are highly desirable. Additionally, the ability to mediate or facilitate healthy interactions among program clients, effectively manage crisis situations, and demonstrate exceptional verbal and written communication skills are essential.
A current Level 1 First Aid/CPR Certificate, a valid Class 5 B.C. Driver's License, and a satisfactory Driver's Abstract are required. Access to a reliable vehicle is preferred.
This position is open to female applicants only and offers union membership and compensation in accordance with the BCGEU Collective Agreement.
This role requires the incumbent to undergo a Police Information Check (PIC), and a Vulnerable Sector Check by the Ministry of Justice.
