Field Technician, Digital Signage – Mississauga

With the widest variety of products, our advertisers benefit from unparalleled advertising opportunities. Our sales professionals and support associates across the country provide clients with unmatched service, insights and campaign innovation.

As leaders in the Canadian advertising industry, PATTISON Outdoor Advertising is determined to initiate change starting from within, and to lead by example and reflect the diversity of the communities within which we work and live, coast-to-coast. By supporting internal and external efforts of inclusion and diversity we aim to better ourselves and the world around us. We are PATTISON Outdoor Advertising and here everyone belongs.

Job Information:

The overall mandate of the Field Technician, Digital Signage is to ensure the smooth operation of PATTISON Outdoor Advertising's digital network infrastructure by collaborating with other members of the NOC, other field technicians, internal departments as well as third party partners and vendors as needed. A large part of the job is to identify, troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve incidents on-site. This could be anything from diagnosing a network problem, installing mounts, replacing screens, troubleshooting video distribution systems, computers or communication equipment, configuring signage software, or applying updates.

The ideal candidate would possess a valid G class driver's license, strong knowledge of digital signage hardware and software (display technologies and standards, as well as IP based video distribution), intermediate networking skills, intermediate Windows knowledge, basic familiarity with Linux, and some computer hardware knowledge. The ideal candidate must be able to pass a thorough background check as the work would take place on federally regulated property. Part of the work would have to be done overnight. The candidate must have the ability to work on a ladder and lift 50lbs unassisted. Working at heights training would be an asset, but not necessary, as training will be provided as needed. An added bonus would be work experience at an airport, however it is not needed.

This role requires the ability to creatively solve issues and have the desire to actively learn new systems as technology evolves. A large part of the job is to be able to independently resolve issues, and the ability to identify what needs to be done to get the desired result in each situation. Attention to detail is key in documenting and analyzing information gathered during troubleshooting and problem solving just as much as the ability to 'think on your feet'.

What you'll do…

  • Learn the equipment and infrastructure to full understanding
  • Perform troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance on digital signage displays and associated hardware
  • Respond to service calls and resolve technical issues
  • Conduct break-fix services for digital signage systems
  • Perform routine maintenance and system health checks
  • Document service activities and maintain accurate repair records
  • Coordinate with the digital NOC team to minimize downtime during repairs
  • Travel between multiple sites using company-provided vehicle and transit
  • Maintenance of the digital spare pool
  • Work independently overnight with minimal supervision, and make decisions
  • Update technical documentation as needed
  • Help the project managers during installation when needed

  • Has the ability to work and make decisions independently, with minimal supervision
  • Is a self-starter and an independent learner, with a strong sense of ownership
  • Has strong knowledge of video distribution systems and technologies (VGA based extenders, or IP based distribution systems, encoders/decoders, like Minicom, Magenta, Muxlab, or Matrox)
  • Has intermediate knowledge of display technologies and standards (both LCD displays, mounting standards, matrices, and SMD LED)
  • Has intermediate knowledge of digital signage software, including configuration (Magicinfo, Novastar controllers, Samsung S-Box, Mura Control for example)
