Position Summary:

The University of Toronto Mississauga Career Centre provides career services to all UTM students and recent graduates of up to two years. Reporting to the Director, Career Centre, the Assistant Director, Employer Relations and Marketing (ERM) works closely with the Assistant Director, Career Development Unit to lead Career Centre initiatives.
Working under the direction of the Director, UTM Career Centre, the Assistant Director, ERM provides primary leadership and is responsible for managing the operations and staff of the ERM, ensures the effective functioning of the unit providing employer activities, events and programming services to students and recent graduates from all programs (undergraduate and graduate) at UTM.

Responsibilities of this position include: planning, implementing and assessing key sections of the Career Centre strategic plan as they relate to the ERM; ensuring a wide range of programming to fit the needs of UTM students and recent graduates; coordinating workflow and evaluation of the ERM. Participates in budget development and oversees ERM budget. Hires, supervises, coaches, mentors, motivates and disciplines ERM unit members. Initiates assessment and service review projects and initiatives related to Career Centre and ERM operations. Ensures services adhere to university values and commitments, contemporary practices and relevant best practices. Maintains equity and accessibility for students and recent graduates. Contributes to the management of key Tri-Campus services in accordance with the Tri-Campus agreement. Liaise with the UTM system administrator to contribute to the development of system modules used by employers, within recruitment processes and career exploration program processes. Represent the Director at meetings or on committees, act in the Director's absence.

Qualifications Required:

EDUCATION:
University degree required; post graduate degree/MBA/Adult Education would be an asset. Programmes in business, marketing or communications preferred. Career Development Practitioner post-diploma preferred; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience, preferably in a university setting, including at least 2 years in a managerial role, requiring development of overall strategies for effective marketing, relationship building and event development. Experience delivering career development services to students in a university Career Centre, including marketing and promotions, events, and communications (electronic and print) and direct service to students. Experience in developing experiential and student self-directed career learning opportunities. Demonstrated understanding of the importance of the role of career education within the context of competency development and in-depth student advising. Experience advising students/student groups in developing career related events. Experience developing business relationships with employers and community partners and/or direct marketing. Experience managing staff, preferably in a unionized environment. Experience working with financial and human resource policies and procedures. Experience in developing learning outcomes for use in service assessment. Experience in implementing service assessments and subsequent improvement. Experience successfully managing relationships within a shared services structure and with multiple offices who may have similar and/or competing interests. Experience liaising with student groups/clubs/unions. Experience with complex systems and platforms, including development of processes to meet stakeholder needs while balancing competing demands. Experience in developing collaborative teams and managing change with staff.

SKILLS:
Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills (written, oral, presentation) to communicate with employers, students, faculty and staff, and to represent the university. Proven leadership and problem-solving skills. Team work and leadership skills. Demonstrated project management, planning and organizational skills, preferably in marketing, events management and community relationships in a non-profit or educational organization. Strong analytical skills. Outstanding research skills to identify potential employers suitable for UTM student base. Extensive knowledge of occupations, labour market conditions, employer recruitment needs and strategies. Computer skills: Advanced computer skills to direct others in the development of educational and marketing web site. Advanced knowledge of Excel, Access, Word, Publisher, Internet Explorer.

OTHER:
Results oriented. Ability to identify risk and use sound judgment to appropriately respond. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of varied contacts (students, employers, alumni, faculty and staff) who are diverse by ethno-culture, gender, sexuality, dis/ability, socioeconomic and family status. Professional attitude, tactful and enthusiastic. Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple, conflicting projects and priorities. Able to initiate and lead new projects based on identified needs. The ability to manage resources and develop and work with a budget. Big picture and detail oriented. Ability to work in a fast-paced student services environment, juggling many activities simultaneously. Ability to work in a demanding, environment. Ability to interact, communicate and build partnerships with students, university staff and faculty. Must be able to work independently and work as part of a team. Demonstrated creativity is essential. Experience working with diverse student communities is also a significant asset. A high degree of initiative and self-motivation required. Ability to effectively manage, motivate and mobilize a team of professional staff.
