Position Overview

Temporary position until January 30, 2027, approximately.

This position is responsible to complete pre-analytic and post-analytic process for transfusion medicine.

Key duties include:

  • Orders, receives, verifies, redistributes, and stores blood/blood products in prescribed conditions;
  • Tracks blood/blood product inventory, monitors expiry dates, and arranges for blood/blood product disposal;
  • Prepares blood/blood products for send outs, completes documentation, and coordinates with courier times;
  • Documents lab and equipment conditions, reports outliers, completes preventative maintenance, and cleans/disinfects works areas and equipment;
  • Log specimens for bone and eye bank.

Rotation/Shifts

Days and evenings, including weekends, 8 hour shifts. Rotation to other TOH campuses may be required. For information purposes only - EORLA reserves the right to change.

Basic Requirements

  • College diploma from a recognized program or successful completion of MLPAO or successful completion of CSMLS exam in the appropriate field of practice;
  • Minimum of three years of relevant experience;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills as the Transfusion Medicine Laboratory Technician provides front-line services to patients/clients and interacts with family/friends of patients/clients at point of care;
  • Strong attention to detail;
  • Knowledge of medical laboratory theory, principles and practices;
  • Knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation; transportation of dangerous goods, WHMIS, Universal precautions, safe handling practices.

As a pre-condition of employment, all new EORLA employees will be required to obtain and provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check dated within six (6) months from the date of issue.

Technicien de laboratoire en médecine transfusionnelle

Ce poste est responsable de compléter le processus pré-analytique et post-analytique pour la médecine transfusionnelle.

Les responsabilités comprennent:

  • Commande, reçoit, vérifie, redistribue et stocke le sang/produits sanguins dans les conditions prescrites;
  • Suit l'inventaire du sang/des produits sanguins, surveille les dates d'expiration et organise l'élimination du sang/des produits sanguins;
  • Prépare le sang/produits sanguins pour les envois, complète la documentation et coordonne avec les délais de livraison;
  • Documente les conditions du laboratoire et de l'équipement, signale les valeurs aberrantes, effectue l'entretien préventif et nettoie/désinfecte les zones de travail et l'équipement;
  • Échantillons de journal pour la banque d'os et d'yeux.

Rotation/Quarts de travail

De jour et de soirée, incluant les fins de semaine, quarts de 8 heures. Rotation à d'autres campus de L'HO peut être requis. À titre d'information seulement - L'ALREO se reserve le droit de modifier.

Exigences pré-requis

  • Formation postsecondaire dans un programme reconnu de technicien de laboratoire médical OU réussite de l'examen de l'APLMO OU réussite de l'examen de la Société canadienne de science de laboratoire médical dans un domaine pertinent;
  • Minimum de trois années d'expérience pertinente;
  • Excellentes compétences en communication et en relations interpersonnelles en tant que technicien de laboratoire en médecine transfusionnelle fournissant des services de première ligne aux patients/clients et interagissant avec la famille/les amis des patients/clients au point de service;
  • Grand souci du détail;
  • Connaissance de la théorie, des principes et des pratiques de laboratoire médical;
  • Connaissance des lois relatives à la santé et à la sécurité au travail applicables, des lois sur le transport de marchandises dangereuses, du SIMDUT, des précautions universelles ainsi que des pratiques de manipulation sécuritaire.

À titre de condition pré-emploi, tout nouvel employé de l'ALREO doit soumettre un rapport de vérification d'antécédents criminels conforme, et daté de moins de six (6) mois à compter de la date d'émission.
