We are looking for a Financial Controller who brings the same energy. Someone who thrives on accuracy, leadership, and strategic impact. This role is ideal for a driven CPA ready to shape the financial operations of a fast-growing, cross-border company.

The Opportunity
As our Financial Controller, you will oversee all financial operations at Upstream Data, managing both Canadian and U.S. entities. You will lead a talented accounting team, ensure accuracy across all reporting, and drive continuous improvement through system optimization and strategic insights.

You'll report directly to the CEO, acting as a trusted partner in decision-making and long-term planning.

What You Will Do

  • Lead all accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP, ASPE, and IFRS
  • Manage full-cycle accounting, including inventory, cost of revenue, AR/AP, payroll, and treasury
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes
  • Develop and manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts
  • Perform variance analysis and provide actionable insights to support business goals
  • Strengthen internal controls and ensure compliance with Canadian and U.S. tax and audit requirements
  • Analyze trends, metrics, and KPIs to guide strategic planning and risk management
  • Provide detailed financial breakdowns for manufacturing departments
  • Supervise and mentor a team of accounting professionals, fostering growth and accountability
  • Drive ERP and process improvements to enhance efficiency and financial visibility
  • Manage cash flow, credit facilities, and banking relationships
  • Support leadership with financial modeling, scenario planning, and investment analysis

What You Bring

  • CPA designation (CA, CMA, or CGA) — required
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting or financial leadership
  • Proven success managing multi-jurisdictional (Canada/U.S.) operations
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP (U.S. & Canadian), ASPE, and/or IFRS
  • Experience with manufacturing, inventory, and cost accounting
  • Expertise in tax reporting, audit management, and treasury operations
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and financial reporting systems
  • Exceptional attention to detail, analytical skills, and communication ability
  • Leadership experience developing high-performing teams
  • Valid passport

Work Environment
This position is based on-site in Calgary, Alberta, in an office setting. Occasional travel will be required to attend conferences, trade shows, and visits to other Upstream Data facilities in Alberta and Wyoming.
