The Controller for the North Regional Operations (YYC, YEG, YWG, YQR, YOW, YHZ) is responsible for leading and managing a team of Controllers to ensure accurate financial reporting, effective cost control, and strong business partnering. Drives financial performance by providing insights, ensuring compliance with corporate policies, and supporting operational teams with budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis. Serves as the key liaison between unit-level finance and the Regional Director, NA-Field Controlling Regionals, aligning unit results with regional objectives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Lead, manage, and develop a finance team in the North Region, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure consistency and quality of financial practices across all units in scope.
  • Partner with leadership to cascade financial goals, policies, and strategies to the team.

Financial Reporting & Planning

  • Oversee the unit-by-unit financial reporting process, including monthly close, budgets, forecasts, and flash reports.
  • Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in reporting according to corporate guidelines.
  • Support Managing Director (MD) and unit GM's in preparing business plans and budget submissions.

Controlling & Compliance

  • Implement and monitor adherence to corporate policies, procedures, and internal controls.
  • Oversee internal control processes for AP, Billing, Payroll, and GL to ensure integrity and compliance.

o Accounts Payable – end to end AP process controls with Datamatics, per AP Manual

o Billing – quality of direct data entry at Units and hand-off to Central Billing

o Payroll – control around Kronos time & attendance, and quality of input

o General Ledger – monitoring SAP transactions in line with SAP Unit Controlling Manual

  • Identify control weaknesses, initiate corrective actions, and work closely with Shared Services and HQ where required.

Analysis & Performance Improvement

  • Develop, implement and monitor KPIs to track material, labor costs and productivity
  • Analyze financial trends and provide actionable insights to improve performance and initiate corrective measures
  • Partner with MD and Operations leadership to drive cost-saving initiatives and unit productivity goals through continuous improvement reviews.
  • Assist Units in planning and managing labor based on forecasted business changes.

Customer Profitability & Business Support

  • Ensure effective analysis of profit and loss by customer, providing insight into profitability and margin improvement opportunities.
  • Support pricing proposals and assist the Regional Director and Operational Leadership with customer pricing decisions.
  • Serve as a business partner to operational teams, providing financial guidance on labor planning and resource allocation.

Collaboration & Projects

  • Collaborate with regional and corporate finance teams to ensure alignment of BU performance with overall company objectives.
  • Participate in regional and cross-functional projects aimed at improving processes, systems, and financial outcomes.
  • Drive best practice sharing across BU's Units.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field from a four-year university or college is required.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration or Finance is preferred.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of field control experience at the Manager level, including operations, general accounting, accounts payable, payroll, and budgeting and forecasting. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in team management.
  • Experience working with a company that adheres to International Accounting Standards (IAS) is preferred.

Technical Skills: (Certification, Licenses, and Registration)

  • Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) preferred.

Language / Communication Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to manage, lead, and collaborate with multiple managers and project team members.
