Job Description: Thrift Store Clerk / Loss Prevention

Department of Functional Area: Super Thrift Store

Reports To: Store Manager

Primary Purpose: Provide service to customers and clients, sort and price incoming merchandise and assist the management in all store operations as required. Contribute to meeting store sales and goals and maintaining excellent customer service, ensuring stock is rotated in a timely fashion. Ensure donations are received, sorted and stored safely and courteously.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Customer and Staff Safety: Ensure a safe environment for customers and staff by monitoring for suspicious behavior and quickly addressing any safety concerns.
• Theft Prevention: Actively deter theft by engaging customers in the store, monitoring high-theft areas, and using security systems (e.g., cameras) to minimize losses.
• Conflict Resolution: Handle disputes or disruptive behavior in a calm, respectful, and compassionate manner, ensuring the values of the organization are upheld. Assist customers and staff in de-escalating situations when necessary.
• Cashier duties when required ensuring transactions are accurate and procedures followed
• Greet customers and donors in a friendly manner and provide good customer service. Answer the phone politely and professionally.
• Assist in keeping the store tidy, clean, organized and stocked with merchandise. Put new merchandise on the sales floor in the designated areas and assist on the sales floor as needed.
• Unload donations, ability to lift up to 20lbs and store them properly according to Super Thrift procedures. Sort donations according to Super Thrift procedures.
• Receive Donations, thank and offer store coupons with every donation
• Prepare merchandise for sale according to Super Thrift procedures. Price items according to quality and value using Super Thrift guidelines and training. Meeting daily production goals.
• Housekeeping duties within all store areas as required
• Follow the schedule laid out by the Store Manager
• Participate in leadership and on-job training as required
• Participate in morning meetings as well as staff meetings

Qualifications:

• Strong Communication Skills: Ability to communicate clearly, calmly, and respectfully with customers, staff, and management. Skills in conflict resolution and de-escalation are valuable.
• Understanding of Christian Values: Familiarity with and respect for the organization's Christian mission and values, and a commitment to reflect these values in interactions and conduct.
• Physical Fitness: Ability to stand, walk, and patrol the store for extended periods. May require lifting or moving objects as needed.
• Observational Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify suspicious behaviors or potential safety hazards proactively.
• Conflict Resolution Abilities: Skill in handling difficult situations or people in a calm, empathetic, and effective manner, aligning with the organization's values.
• Basic First Aid and CPR Certification: First Aid and CPR certification is often a requirement or a strong asset to handle potential medical emergencies.
• Trustworthiness and Integrity: Demonstrated reliability, honesty, and ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and respect.
• Ability to Work Independently and as Part of a Team: Capability to work independently with minimal supervision while also collaborating effectively with store staff and management.
• Able to lift 50lbs

Job Types: Part-time, Permanent

Pay: Up to $18.00 per hour
