We are looking for a passionate Legal Assistant to provide legal support to lawyers on the SafeRoads team.
The Legal Assistants within our division play an integral part in all of our teams. Your responsibilities in this role will include, but are not limited to:
- Preparing and processing a variety of documents from lawyers' written or verbal instructions,
- Filing documents with KB digital filing,
- Preparing and drafting letters, memos, agreements, and reports,
- Editing and formatting various documents in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint,
- Uploading documents and opening files into Prolaw,
- Managing and organizing files and voluminous records in preparation for court proceedings,
- Identifying issues on assigned files and conducting legal/topical research,
- Monitoring case law developments and monitoring and tracking judicial consideration of administrative impaired driving proceedings,
- Working in a team environment, assisting several lawyers and working closely with other legal assistants and Paralegals on the team,
- Creating and contributing to legal databases and precedents,
- Building and maintaining a precedent bank of pleadings, legal opinions, and filed written arguments,
- Utilizing research tools such as e-Carswell, CanLii, and Westlaw to pull and cite various cases and statutes,
- Maintaining Outlook calendar management through arranging appointments, scheduling meetings, and making travel arrangements,
- Updating Tracker and Action Items as required, and
- Completing other duties as requested.
To be successful in this position, you will need to demonstrate:
- The ability to multi-task, prioritize and schedule assignments to meet court deadlines,
- Excellent organizational skills,
- Exceptional time management skills and can prepare an ongoing records management process in our office that will work with physical and electronic files,
- The ability to work independently and handle a high-volume workload for multiple lawyers and directors while meeting necessary deadlines and ensuring high quality standards are met,
- Strong knowledge of court procedure and relevant legislation and a firm foundation in civil law, and
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of records collection, maintenance and destruction with the Government of Alberta (GoA).

Requirements:
- A Two-year Legal Assistant diploma or in any other related field, supplemented with at least one (1) year of related experience as a Legal Assistant or Paralegal with a law firm or other agencies, or equivalent as described.
Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of:
- One year of experience for one year of education or
- One year of education for one year of experience.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Programs (Word, Excel) and Adobe Pro.
- Experience with civil court procedures, relevant legislation, and high-volume litigation.

Priority will be given to those candidates with a firm foundation in civil law.

Positions Currently available: One (1) temporary position (up to November 2026) is available.
Location: Peace Hills Trust Tower, St. NW, Edmonton, Alberta.
