The position offers up to 21 hours per week, with some flexibility in scheduling. Work hours may be arranged during the day or evening to meet both the operational needs of the campus and the availability of the successful candidate.
BACKGROUND
The Labrador Campus is the newest campus of Memorial University, established in January 2022. Home to the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies and the Pye Centre for Northern Boreal Food Systems, the Labrador Campus is a vibrant centre for Northern-focused, Northern-inspired, and Northern-led research, education, and community partnerships. As part of this exciting and historic transformation, the Labrador Campus is developing undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate certificates, diplomas, degrees, and professional development learning opportunities, expanding our research activities, developing new infrastructure, and growing our team.

As part of our growing campus environment and student population, the Labrador Campus is hiring a Labrador Campus Wellness & Success Navigator to support: student wellness, mental health, and success; campus wellness; and wellness programming at the Pye Centre for Northern Boreal Food Systems. This position will be located at the Labrador Campus, supporting students, staff, faculty, community programming on campus and at the Pye Centre, and will be connected to the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre (SWCC) on the St. John's Campus.

DUTIES
Reporting to the Vice Provost and Dean of the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies, and the Director of the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre, the Labrador Campus Wellness and Success Navigator will foster engagement and success through the coordination and delivery of student support, wellness, and engagement opportunities at the Labrador Campus and the Pye Centre for Northern Boreal Food Systems.

Duties include providing in-person and virtual mental health and wellness supports; navigating student referrals within the Labrador Campus, Memorial University, and community-based resources for mental health needs; working with the Pye Centre for Northern Boreal Food Systems and partners to design and deliver on-farm wellness programming in the summers; maintaining a level of professional knowledge and skills pertaining to single session, case management, and mental health and wellness; utilizing a healthy campus model and working with Labrador Campus and Memorial University stakeholders, as well as community agencies, to identify and respond to the needs of students; creating and delivering culturally relevant mental health supports and programming both on-campus and at the Pye Centre; supporting and making appropriate referrals to at-risk students and responding to student crisis situations; providing academic and career advice to students; assessing and reporting on the education of students and their academic progress, and notifying the Dean of student concerns, in accordance with regulations; conducting group information presentations for current students; acting as a liaison with the Student Wellness and Counselling Centre (SWCC) and units such as, the School of Graduate Studies (SGS), Student Life, Office of Indigenous Affairs, and external agencies; responding to students in need of additional support or who require accommodations and referring them to the appropriate on- or off-campus supports as needed; liaising with other units and staying current on the academic and non-academic supports and services available to students; working with the Labrador Campus Student Recruitment, Retention, and Relationships Officer to create orientation and supports for incoming students; improving student experience through responsiveness to email, phone, video call, chat and in person inquiries; participating in special projects or initiatives in consultation with management; and performing other related duties as required.

Qualifications
Experience (minimum 3 years) in advising, supporting, or navigating roles with a focus on mental health, wellness, and/or employee, team, or student success; completion of a master's degree or working towards master's level education is required; or an equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of the mental health and wellness needs of students and communities, particularly in Northern and Indigenous contexts; experience working with diverse populations, particularly Indigenous Peoples; and strong interpersonal, writing, and communication skills. Experience working in environments focused on accessibility and inclusion is essential, particularly in managing complex issues related to equity, accessibility, mental health, and intercultural diversity. Prior experience and training in utilizing single session counselling, group support, crisis and suicide intervention, and mental health first aid training are significant assets.

SALARY
$71,050 - $87,763 per annum (Management and Professional)

An upscale hiring step has been applied to this position (Step 16)

Plus applicable annual Northern Allowance
