Job Summary
We are looking for a warm, grounded, and creative educator who LOVES early childhood learning and feels called to lead young children with purpose, joy, and compassion. At The NEW School, we believe that teaching is both a ministry and a craft—an opportunity to guide children academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.
As a Christ-centered micro-school grounded in hands-on, project-based, nature-rich learning, we seek an educator who delights in God's creation, values meaningful relationships, and thrives in a small, intimate classroom community. Your role will be essential in shaping the foundational skills and character of our youngest learners—helping them grow in confidence, curiosity, resilience, and Christ-like values.
This position offers a deeply meaningful opportunity to nurture children during their most formative years while working alongside a supportive, faith-aligned team committed to excellence in holistic child development.
Duties
- Holistic, Nature-Connected Teaching
- Design and implement innovative, hands-on, developmentally appropriate learning experiences rooted in project-based learning, nature immersion, creativity, and Christian worldview.
Nurturing Classroom Leadership
- Lead a warm, structured, and joy-filled classroom environment rooted in gentle guidance, love, and respect, reflecting the heart of Christ.
- Support diverse learners with individualized attention, including children with autism or unique learning needs, guided by compassion and inclusion.
Curriculum & Instruction
- Develop holistic, hands-on curriculum that blends best practices (Reggio, Montessori-inspired, experiential learning) with biblically grounded values.
- Facilitate daily learning that incorporates nature, exploration, storytelling, art, movement, and play as God-given ways children make meaning.
Spiritual Development
- Model Christian character and integrate age-appropriate faith practices, such as gratitude, prayer, kindness, stewardship of nature, and biblical themes connected to daily learning.
Assessment & Documentation
- Conduct regular assessments through observation, documentation, and child-centered tools to understand each learner's growth.
- Adapt teaching strategies to support children's academic, emotional, and spiritual development.
Family & Community Partnership
- Communicate consistently with parents about progress, milestones, and classroom life.
- Build trusting relationships rooted in warmth, clarity, and shared values.
- Welcome families into a community of faith, learning, and partnership.
Collaboration & Leadership
- Mentor teaching assistants and collaborate with colleagues in planning, reflection, and professional growth.
- Participate in school initiatives, celebrations, outdoor learning experiences, and community events.
Professional Growth
- Engage in continued learning related to early childhood education, Christian education, nature pedagogy, behavior guidance, and inclusive practices.
- Demonstrate a growth mindset and willingness to evolve as our school grows.
Administration
- Maintain clear, organized records for attendance, assessments, lesson plans, and documentation.
- Ensure compliance with school policies, health standards, and safety guidelines.
- Integrate literacy, numeracy, physical movement, outdoor education, and social-emotional learning aligned with The NEW School's four pillars: Rooted in Balance, Experience Sustainability, Growth Mindset, and Christ-Centered Education.
Skills
- Proven expertise in early childhood education principles, childhood development theories, and classroom management strategies.
- Strong understanding of early childhood development and hands-on, child-led learning
- ECE certification
- Comfort working outdoors daily in all weather
- Experience supporting diverse learners with compassion and skill
- Strong curriculum development abilities rooted in experiential, nature-based teaching
- Excellent communication skills with families and colleagues
- Experience mentoring educators or leading small teams an asset
- Familiarity with Christian education or willingness to integrate faith into teaching
- Strong writing and documentation skills
- Ability to create inclusive, emotionally safe environments rooted in love, respect, and biblical values
- Experience in private or independent school settings is helpful but not required
