As a Senior Transit Scheduler, you will be responsible for determining the creation and assignment of operator work, the planning/scheduling of operator vacation entitlement to ensure the provisions of required transit service levels in accordance with the budget, overall public transportation plans and policies. Primary duties include:

  • Manage the operator sign-on process which allocates work shifts to approximately 2,300 operators.
  • Supervise Transit Schedulers regarding run-cutting, sign-on activities and schedule design.
  • Design schedule service based on available resources and review and implement service adjustments.
  • Design cost effective operator work assignments in accordance with constraints defined in the Collective Agreement.
  • Participate in the review of schedule, workforce and vehicle requirements.
  • Review and develop policies and procedures to meet organizational objectives regarding run-cutting and sign-on processes.
  • Provide technical advice for contract negotiations with ATU Local 583.

Qualifications

  • A degree in Computer Science, Transportation Planning, Business Administration, Statistics, Economics or a related field with at least 4 years of experience in a computerized work environment which includes data analysis, operations and service planning and scheduling.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Preference will be given to candidates who have knowledge of Calgary Transit's operating system, scheduling requirements and On Demand Transit.
  • Candidates with HASTUS, Computer Aided Design (CAD)/Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL), Map Maintenance Tool and Automatic Vehicle Announcement (AVA) experience will be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with transit operations, planning or scheduling would be considered an asset.
  • Ability to work under pressure with set deadlines while paying close attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to discuss scheduling issues with customers, transit operators and staff from other section in Calgary Transit.

Workstyle: This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.
