About the Role
Our private family office, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, is seeking an experienced Accountant to manage full-cycle accounting, payroll, and tax compliance across a portfolio of operating and holding companies. The portfolio includes real estate holding entities, design-build construction company, manufacturing and wholesaling companies.
This role is well-suited for a hands-on accountant who is comfortable managing multiple entities and working closely with ownership, management, and external advisors.
Key Responsibilities
Full-Cycle Accounting (Multi-Entity)
- Perform full-cycle accounting for multiple operating and holding entities, including:
- ∙ Accounts payable and receivable
- ∙ Bank, credit card, and loan reconciliations
- ∙ Journal entries and general ledger maintenance
- ∙ Month-end and year-end close
- Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with ASPE
- Manage intercompany transactions and reconciliations
Payroll Administration (British Columbia)
- Process semi-monthly payroll for BC-based employees
- Ensure compliance with BC Employment Standards Act requirements, including:
- ∙ Statutory holiday pay
- ∙ Vacation pay and accruals
- ∙ Overtime calculations
- Calculate and remit Worksafe BC payments
- Maintain HR and payroll records in compliance with CRA and BC requirements
- Reconcile payroll accounts and post payroll journal entries
- Prepare and support T4, T4A, and year-end payroll filings
- Coordinate with external payroll providers and benefits administrators as required
Real Estate Accounting
- Maintain accounting records for real estate holding entities, including:
- ∙ Rental income, additional rent recoveries, and tenant billings
- ∙ Property operating expenses and mortgage accounting
- ∙ Capital expenditures and fixed asset tracking
- Support property-level financial reporting and cash flow analysis
- Coordinate with property managers and leasing teams
Portfolio & Holding Company Accounting
- Record investment transactions, shareholder loans, capital contributions, distributions, and management fees
- Maintain intercompany and ownership schedules
- Support new entity setup and ongoing corporate recordkeeping
Construction / Design-Build Accounting (Tenant Improvements)
- Manage job costing, project tracking, and WIP reporting
- Track project revenues, costs, change orders, and profitability
- Monitor progress billings, holdbacks, and retainage
- Coordinate with project managers to ensure accurate cost allocation
Tax Compliance & Year-End Support
- Prepare and file GST/HST and related reconciliations
- Support payroll remittances and statutory filings
- Assist external accountants with:
- ∙ Corporate income tax (T2) filings
- ∙ Real estate tax schedules
- ∙ Year-end working papers and reviews
- Maintain organized audit and tax documentation
Reporting & Process Improvement
- Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
- Assist with cash flow monitoring and forecasting
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting and payroll processes
- Maintain accounting and payroll procedures and documentation
Qualifications & Experience
Required
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience in British Columbia
- Experience with full-cycle accounting across multiple entities
- Strong understanding of ASPE
- Proficiency with accounting and payroll systems, including Netsuite, QuickBooks, and Payworks
- Working knowledge of BC payroll requirements and Canadian commodity tax compliance
- Strong Excel skills
Preferred
- Enrollment in or completion of the CPA Professional Education Program
- Experience in a family office, real estate firm, construction company, or owner-managed business
- Experience with real estate accounting
- Knowledge of job costing and Work In Progress reporting
