Founded in 1970, Steele Hotels is an independent hotel operator based out of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada. With origins in Gander, NL the company has grown to include 8 properties located in St. John's, NL, Corner Brook, NL, and Fredericton, NB.

Steele Hotels is looking for a part-time Porter to join its growing team at The Capital Hotel in St. John's, NL. The ideal candidate would possess a positive "can-do" attitude, and a high level of professionalism, coupled with a strong work ethic and critical thinking skills. This often involves working in fast-paced environment conditions at varying times throughout the day or night.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and food service areas throughout shift, including dishwashing during peak periods, in accordance with health and safety regulations
  • Prepare and set up meeting rooms and event spaces, including arranging furniture and equipment for scheduled meetings, events, and banquets
  • Ensure cleanliness of all hotel public areas, including washrooms, hallways, and common spaces
  • Collect and dispose of waste and recycling materials in accordance with proper disposal procedures
  • Prepare and replenish coffee breaks and refreshment stations for meetings, events, and banquets, as required
  • Assist with general cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and overall tidiness of assigned areas
  • Support the Housekeeping Department with cleaning and operational tasks, as needed
  • Assist with exterior maintenance and general repair work, including some outdoor duties, as required
  • Perform other duties, as assigned

Qualifications, Skills, & Attributes:

  • Previous experience in a hospitality, custodial, housekeeping, or food service environment is considered an asset
  • Thorough knowledge of safe food handling, sanitation, and cleaning practices
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, standing for extended periods, and some outdoors work
  • Ability to work well independently and as a team
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, weekends, overnight shifts, and holidays
