Innovation and Entrepreneurship Strategist

Job Description:

The Institute's mission is to provide transformational learning experiences that develop the innovative and entrepreneurial talent that Alberta needs. Our LaunchPad Student Programs offer Alberta's most comprehensive undergraduate entrepreneurship programs, grounded in the belief that transformational experiences often occur outside the classroom. Our programs provide paid opportunities for students across campus to engage in innovation and entrepreneurship while building valuable networks, skillsets, and mindsets, which are essential whether they start or join a growing company.

The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Strategist will lead the research, development, and delivery of programs that expand the Institute's impact on students and recent alumni across campus. Reporting to the associate director of Student Programs, the I&E Strategist will deliver outcomes that support the Institute's mission to develop innovative and entrepreneurial talent through personalized and industry-engaged transformational experiences. This role will collaborate with departments across the university and stakeholders in the community to take a strategic, evidence-based approach to design, fund, and deliver programs that serve varied student groups on campus. The I&E Strategist will also manage student interns and provide guidance and mentorship to the Entrepreneur Development Officers.

Outreach, research, and development

• Engage departments across the university to determine the relevant needs of varied student groups (e.g. sciences, women, social innovators, …)
• Research innovative programs and approaches that expand the impact of innovation and entrepreneurship beyond the traditionally served student groups
• Research economic and workforce trends to ensure our programs are forward-looking
• Pilot innovative programs to serve unique student groups, measure impact and recommend programs for ongoing delivery.

Program delivery and measurement

• Determine resource requirements and funding strategy for new programs, including engaging with community funders and granting organizations
• Lead the delivery of new and existing programs targeting students and recent alumni
• Provide supervision for casual staff and alumni coaches and support for the full-time Entrepreneur Development Officers
• Establish and measure key metrics of new and existing programs
• Lead the donor reporting process ensuring we are meeting or exceeding expectations
• Take a strategic and evidence-based view of which activities the Institute should do more of, less of, stop altogether or start anew.

Community engagement

• Engage external community to reinforce MRU's leadership role in student-centric innovation and entrepreneurship programming
• Seek communications opportunities to amplify the Institute's reputation
• Identify potential partnerships that will further the Institute's mission

Student Mentor and Coach

• Be a domain expert in the processes, skills, and mindset that our students are expected to develop through our programs
• Meet one-on-one with students and ensure they are receiving a personalized, supportive, and transformational experience.

Other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred, ideally in Innovation and Entrepreneurship or a related field
• 3-5 years of relevant experience
• Ability to work independently, show initiative, and identify and seize opportunities (i.e. be entrepreneurial)

Salary: $69, $87,978.80 pre annum
