As a member of the team you will provide insight and innovative construction solutions to ensure the successful execution of various projects, such as: education facilities; hospitals and healthcare centers; office buildings; warehouse and distribution centers; and mixed- use facilities.
Reporting to the District Manager, the Operations Manager must have commercial construction industry experience and is responsible for planning, organizing and directing all Business Unit activities on an Operations level. The Operations Manager is the liaison between the projects and the District Manager, leading teams through the project lifecycle pursuit.
What You Will Be Doing
- Oversee 200+ million/year operations and project administration of multiple teams in the bidding and building of projects with consistent profit year over year.
- Promote and support operations safety through maintaining standards and adhering to policy.
- Develop and train teams and ensure compliance of business practices and processes to drive superior results.
- Thorough understanding of project delivery methods including Design-Bid-Build, Construction Manager at Risk, Design Build (Traditional, Modified & Progressive), Integrated Project Delivery, and Public Private Partnership.
- Engage Preconstruction in preparing, revising, and monitoring information related to costs involved in developing the project budget.
- Engage and support project pursuits including operational oversight on RFQ and RFP submissions.
- Engage and lead the business's procurement strategy in key market sectors.
- Develop, recommend and implement each project plan, after project award.
- Oversee the review of contract documents with project teams and the commercial manager to ensure terms are clear on deliverables.
- Oversee budget estimates and deliverables to the client.
- Engage in the subcontracting process including initial scope review meetings, finalizing agreed processes, subcontract scopes of work, and managing the subcontract final execution process.
- Drive schedule accountability and milestone dates for each project.
- Oversee project forecast and prepare variance reports. Review and implement schedule and margin enhancement plans with project teams.
- Lead, participate and coach projects teams with the resolution of conflict.
- Act in a manner of integrity that shows support for the company, its values, and the employees, while maintaining constant focus on meeting or exceeding customer requirements and expectations.
- Establish and maintain relationships with public and private sector clients, joint-venture partners, financing partners, key specialist subcontractors, as well as other stakeholders, such as design teams, suppliers, and user groups.
- Negotiate skillfully in tough situations with internal and external parties by winning concessions without damaging relationships and being direct and diplomatic.
- Actively participate in industry, client, and community relations to enhance and promote Graham.
- Proactively seek new business opportunities through relationships.
- A minimum of 15+ years of direct construction project management experience at a Tier 1 General Contractor, including demonstrated experience leading commercial construction projects. Multi-key (high rise residential, multi-family, mixed use, affordable housing, long term care), Healthcare (hospitals, medical facilities), Warehouse & Manufacturing, Recreation & Entertainment, Schools, Post Secondary, and Civic).
- Technical trade certificate is a minimum requirement; Technical Diploma or a Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- Extensive knowledge of construction methods and project management processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage complex or multiple construction projects
- Minimum of 5 years' experience supervising, training and mentoring staff in all aspects of project requirements.
