What is the Opportunity?
The Talent Analytics & Workforce Planning Specialist will play a critical role in advancing Aecon's talent data capabilities by designing, maintaining, and optimizing dashboards, reporting tools, and workforce planning models. This role is ideal for someone with strong technical expertise in Power BI, data visualization, analytics, and workforce planning, who can translate complex information into actionable insights for the Talent Acquisition (TA) and HR leadership teams.
This position will support the evolution of Aecon's talent insights infrastructure; enhancing dashboards, improving data accuracy, developing predictive workforce planning models, and ensuring our TA and HR teams have reliable, high-quality analytics to drive strategic decisions.
What You'll Do Here:
Talent Analytics & Reporting (Power BI Focus)
- Design, build, maintain, and optimize Power BI dashboards, reports, and data models that support Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning priorities.
- Oversee the technical maintenance of recruitment dashboards, including troubleshooting, updates, enhancements, and user access management.
- Analyze TA and workforce data to identify trends, gaps, and actionable insights, providing clear recommendations to improve hiring efficiency, quality, and forecasting accuracy.
- Research and apply industry best practices in TA analytics, reporting, and data visualization.
- Ensure data integrity by validating inputs, cleaning data sets, and improving automated data pipelines where applicable.
- Develop and monitor metrics that support business needs; time-to-fill, funnel analytics, forecasted hiring demand, headcount planning, etc.
- Identify continuous improvement opportunities to enhance reporting efficiency, dashboard functionality, and talent data reliability.
- Gather user feedback, assess data needs, and evolve tools and dashboards to meet emerging business requirements.
- Document processes, data definitions, and reporting standards to improve clarity and consistency across TA and HR.
Workforce Planning & Forecasting
- Partner with TA, HRBPs, Operations, and Finance to understand hiring demand, project requirements, and workforce gaps for short- and long-term planning.
- Develop and maintain workforce planning models, templates, and Power BI dashboards that support annual business planning and ongoing forecasting cycles.
- Conduct supply–demand analysis, identify talent risks (e.g., skill shortages, critical roles, peak hiring periods), and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Support scenario planning for project ramp-ups, demobilizations, and shifting resourcing needs.
- Analyze labour market trends and internal workforce data to guide stakeholders in strategic decision-making.
- Prepare data-driven summaries and insights for leadership reviews, translating complex information into clear, actionable narratives.
- Facilitate alignment between Operations and TA on resourcing timelines, ensuring recruitment strategies match project schedules.
- Maintain and continuously improve workforce planning processes, tools, and reporting standards.
Stakeholder Support & Collaboration
- Act as the primary point of contact for TA teams on analytics, dashboards, and workforce planning tools.
- Provide training, documentation, and end-user support for dashboards, reporting tools, and new analytics features.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to align talent data needs and planning assumptions.
- Communicate insights clearly to stakeholders at all levels with strong data storytelling skills.
What You Bring to the Team:
- 5-7+ years of experience in Talent Analytics, HR Analytics, Workforce Planning, or a related data/HR discipline
- Experience supporting Talent Acquisition, HR, or Operations with workforce planning, forecasting, or talent insights
- Advanced Power BI expertise, including DAX, data modeling, data transformations, and building dashboards from scratch
- Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, advanced formulas, modeling)
- Ability to clean, validate, and combine large datasets from multiple sources
- Experience developing workforce planning models, templates, and forecasting tools
- Strong understanding of Talent Acquisition and HR metrics (time-to-fill, funnel analytics, turnover, headcount trends, etc.)
- Ability to analyze complex data sets and translate insights into actionable recommendations
- Experience conducting supply–demand analysis and identifying workforce and skills gaps
- Ability to interpret labour market trends and apply them to workforce planning and recruitment strategies
- Strong communication skills with the ability to translate technical data into business-friendly language
- Ability to gather stakeholder requirements and translate them into dashboards or planning tools
- Experience partnering with HR, TA, Operations, Finance, and other cross-functional teams
- Comfortable delivering training, documentation, or walkthroughs for dashboards and planning tools
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and pivot quickly as needs change
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with limited guidance
- Strong sense of ownership, accountability, and proactive problem-solving
- Ability to improve processes, reporting, and data tools through continuous improvement
