Job Description:

Parsons is looking for an talented Water & Wastewater Engineer-in-Training  to join our team In this role you will get to part of our Water group in Alberta and Western Canada.

What You'll Be Doing:


•    Support the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, pipelines, reservoirs, and related infrastructure.

  • Prepare engineering drawings, technical specifications, data sheets, and procurement packages, making effective use of CAE/CAD and modeling software.
  • Conduct engineering calculations, hydraulic analyses, material quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and feasibility assessments for municipal and industrial water/wastewater systems.
  • Assist in developing process flow diagrams (PFDs), P&IDs, and design reports under the guidance of senior engineers.


•    Participate in treatment process selection and evaluation, including MBBR, MBR, SBR, filtration, disinfection, and biosolids handling systems.

•    Prepare detailed equipment and material requisitions, evaluate vendor submittals, and support technical bid analysis plus providing technical specifications.

•    Review and comment on supplier shop drawings, ensuring alignment with project specifications and standards.

•    Provide technical support to CAD designers, junior team members, and cross-disciplinary engineering teams.

•    Support field activities, including site visits, condition assessments, construction inspections, and commissioning/start-up support.

•    Coordinate with internal teams, regulatory agencies, Indigenous communities, municipalities, and private-sector clients to ensure project success.

•    Ensure all design activities comply with provincial regulations, codes, and industry standards (e.g., CSA, AWWA, ASTM, provincial permitting requirements).

•    Contribute to internal quality assurance processes, risk assessments, and project documentation.

•    Perform other duties as required to support the successful delivery of water and wastewater projects.
 

What Required Skills You'll Bring:


•    Bachelor's degree in civil, Environmental, Chemical, Environmental or Water Resources Engineering (or related discipline). A master's degree or PhD would be considered an asset.

•    Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification or eligibility to obtain it.

•    0–5 years of relevant engineering experience, ideally in municipal or industrial water/wastewater systems.

•    Proficiency with CAD software, and familiarity with engineering tools such as Civil3D, AutoCAD, WaterCAD/WaterGEMS, SewerCAD, BioWin, GPS-X, or similar (asset).

•    Strong understanding of water and wastewater treatment processes, hydraulics, and infrastructure design principles.

•    Ability to interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.

•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment.

•    Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

•    Willingness to travel to client sites, supplier facilities, or construction locations as required

What Desired Skills You'll Bring:


•    Working knowledge of advanced water and wastewater treatment processes, including, but not limited to, MBR, MBBR, SBR, UF/RO, and NF.

•    Experience preparing Class 1–3 cost estimates, design reports, contract documents, and tender packages for municipal infrastructure projects.

•    Familiarity with provincial and federal permitting frameworks, including Alberta Environment and Protected Areas (AEP) approvals, and other regulatory requirements.

•    Experience supporting construction administration, including RFIs, submittal reviews, site inspections, commissioning, and start-up activities.

•    Exposure to project management tasks, such as scheduling, task coordination, budget support, and stakeholder or Indigenous engagement.

•    Knowledge of sustainability, asset management, climate resilience, and low-carbon design practices relevant to water and wastewater infrastructure.

•    Experience working in a consulting environment with multi-disciplinary teams, including structural, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation & control (I&C), and environmental disciplines.
