POSITION:

The Professional Practice Lead, Psychological Services is responsible for the oversight, coordination, and continuous improvement of Ongwanada's psychological and behavioural services within a multidisciplinary, biopsychosocial model of care. This role provides professional and clinical leadership to ensure high-quality, person-centered supports for individuals with developmental disabilities and adherence to ethical, professional, and legislative standards. The Professional Practice Lead promotes interdisciplinary collaboration to support integrated service delivery and enhance access to care.

DUTIES:

The Professional Practice Lead, Psychological Services, is accountable to:

Develop, implement, and enhance psychological and behavioural services and supports

  • Provide leadership in the integration and delivery of psychological and behavioural services within a multidisciplinary, biopsychosocial model of care that supports holistic, person-centered mental health and wellness.
  • Review and implement evidence-informed and innovative approaches to continuously improve the quality and effectiveness of supports for individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Ensure that Community Behaviour Services and Psychological Services performance targets established by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) are achieved.
  • Ensure that all clinical services for individuals with developmental disabilities meet required professional standards, ethical expectations, and legal obligations.
  • Evaluate and enhance existing programs and processes to strengthen service quality, collaboration, and community capacity.
  • Review eligibility criteria for referrals and oversee management of the Psychological Services and Community Behavioural Services wait lists.
  • Ensure timely and effective provision of psychological and behavioural services for individuals with complex needs through collaboration with interprofessional team members and community stakeholders.
  • Ensure that psychological assessments, evaluations, interventions, and consultations are completed in a manner that is responsive to the needs of the individuals supported.
  • Complete electronic clinical documentation for all assigned cases, from intake through discharge, in a timely and accurate manner consistent with professional and organizational standards.
  • Prepare, synthesize, and provide reports and documentation as required.
  • Work collaboratively and in consultation with Registered Behaviour Analysts and Social Workers at Ongwanada to facilitate individuals' access to appropriate community-based services and supports.
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of psychological and behavioural service delivery in achieving individual goals, program outcomes, and organizational service targets.

Provide professional leadership and oversight of behavioural and psychological services within an interdisciplinary team

  • Provide clinical supervision and professional practice oversight to Behaviour Therapists, Social Workers, and other unregulated or developing practitioners (e.g., interns, students) in accordance with the standards of the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario (CPBAO). As outlined in CPBAO Standard 4.4, supervision inherent to employment does not require a separate formal agreement but must be clearly defined and documented.
  • Collaborate with Registered Behaviour Analysts (RBAs) to ensure alignment, coordination, and integration of behavioural and psychological services within the organization's biopsychosocial model of care.
  • Ensure that supervision, assessment, consultation, and intervention practices reflect current professional, ethical, and evidence-based standards.
  • Support orientation, training, and quality-assurance processes for members of the behavioural and psychological services team.
  • Provide leadership, governance, and accreditation oversight for the Kingston Internship Consortium (KIC) in alignment with Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) and APPIC standards, including serving as Chair of the Advisory Committee, supervising psychology residents assigned to Ongwanada, and coordinating consortium evaluation, reporting, and quality-assurance activities.
  • Collaborate with psychiatry, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and other clinical professions to promote integrated, person-centered care.

Be a resource and subject matter expert to agency leadership, management and team members

  • Provide expert advice and evidence-informed recommendations to Senior Leadership regarding psychological, behavioural, and related clinical services.
  • Identify and communicate emerging data, trends, and issues to inform strategic and operational planning aimed at enhancing service quality and outcomes.
  • Prepare and deliver clear, concise, and timely communications, reports, and presentations to Senior Leadership and internal or external stakeholders.
  • Support cross-departmental collaboration by sharing specialized knowledge that strengthens integrated, person-centered service delivery.

Ensure effective use of financial and human resources within Psychological and Behavioural Services

  • Contribute to the development of the annual budget for psychological and behavioural services and manage assigned resources in alignment with organizational priorities and clinical program requirements.
  • Offer an informed clinical perspective on resource and service planning to align fiscal stewardship with person-centered, high-quality care.
  • Ensure compliance with organizational financial policies, internal controls, and reporting systems relevant to the delivery of psychological and behavioural services.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Doctoral degree in Psychology (Clinical or Counselling)
  • Registration for autonomous practice as a Psychologist with the College of Psychologists and Behaviour Analysts of Ontario
  • 4-8 years of experience in a related clinical practice environment.
  • Demonstrated competence in psychological assessment, evaluation, diagnosis, intervention, consultation, ethics, and supervision consistent with CPA and College standards for professional practice and training.
  • Fluency in English/French, verbal and written preferred.
  • Experience supervising team members in a clinical setting required.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disability/dual diagnosis an asset.
