The Ministry of Public Safety and Emergency Services ("PSES") has significant oversight and involvement in the public security and emergency services through its various divisions and operations. The department is responsible for the administration of law enforcement, correctional services, policing and police oversight and public safety. The Ministry supports crime prevention and restorative justice programs, as well as programs and services to support victims of crime including those affected by domestic violence and human trafficking. The Ministry also coordinates large scale emergency and disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery programs and initiatives.

Role
The Police Review Commission (PRC) will be responsible for overseeing the police complaints process for all municipal and First Nations police services in Alberta and will have approximately 150 staff. Following implementation, the PRC will be a leader in police oversight, bringing in a significant change to the oversight model by combining criminal and regulatory investigations in one arm's length agency.
The Executive Director, Corporate Services will receive direction from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Police Review Commission the Executive Director will provide strategic leadership for all central and corporate functions of the PRC, which also includes the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (AISIRT). Executive Director will also provide strategic advice and oversee legal services, policy development, data analysis, corporate planning, organizational training, stakeholder engagement, media relations, communications, and other corporate functions.
The Executive Director is also responsible for managing staff that directly support the CEO by providing operational support structure as well as maintaining alignment between day-to-day operations and PRC strategic direction. This includes oversight of administrative processes, coordination of leadership correspondence and communications, and support for executive-level planning and decision-making. By providing this operational support structure, the executive director helps maintain alignment between day-to-day operations and the broader strategic direction of the PRC.
As a member of the Police Review Commission's executive leadership team, the Executive Director is a trusted leader who contributes to a positive workplace culture that champions innovation, strives for efficiency, embraces diversity and inclusion, and models respect in the workplace. The Executive Director collaborates with internal and external stakeholders, including national oversight agencies and ensures accountability across all levels of leadership staff within government. This position works within a variety of acts, regulations, standards, and PRC policies.
Decisions made by the Executive Director have both direct and indirect impacts on the PRC, law enforcement agencies and community organizations. Therefore, maintaining public trust, fostering community engagement and upholding the integrity of the complaint resolution process is required to navigate public concerns and maintain full transparency to Albertans.
Qualifications
As Executive Director, your background includes extensive related senior management experience with strengths in briefing at senior leadership levels. You are a recognized strategic leader who is agile and politically astute, with expert knowledge of policing policy, procedures, and duties. You have working knowledge of administrative law, procedural fairness, and legal processes relevant to police oversight and regulatory decision-making. You are an agent of change with strong leadership skills to influence staff performance, and to effectively manage up and across various levels of government. You foster collaboration and build strong long-standing relationships in dynamic environments with diverse stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, community organizations, and government bodies. You possess cultural competencies for working with Indigenous and diverse communities. Your excellent communication skills and demonstrated continuous improvement in program delivery will be essential to your success in this role.
A bachelor's degree combined with related experience in municipal, provincial or federal government or law enforcement, and significant senior leadership experience is preferred.
Salary
$5, $6,879.68 bi-weekly ($136,631 - $179,559 yearly)
Notes
A class 5 driver's license and a clear driver's abstract is required for this position.
25% Travel across Alberta is required.
