LMI Technologies, recognized as one of Canada's Best Workplaces, is a medium-sized technology company built on a culture of openness, respect and professional excellence. At LMI our staff work passionately toward the common goal of designing and delivering innovative 3D machine vision solutions to OEMs and System Integrators working in industrial factory automation around the world. The result of this teamwork is high-performance, easy-to-implement and cost-effective 3D sensor technologies that deliver the best results in even the most challenging 3D inline inspection applications.

What will you do as an Senior Mechanical (Automation) Engineer?

LMI Technologies is seeking a hands-on technical leader to spearhead the Design, Development, Automation and Validation of our next generation of high-accuracy industrial measurement and inspection systems. Working as part of our global Technology (R&D) team, you will report to the Senior Product Engineering Manager and work at our Burnaby head office.

You will lead a team to design complex automation, starting from ideation, component sourcing, design, prototyping and production rollout.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead Design & Development: Directly manage and contribute to the mechanical design lifecycle of complex, high-precision machinery, ensuring designs meet stringent accuracy, speed, and reliability targets.
  • Precision Architecture: Take ownership of critical mechanical subsystems, including the specification, design, and validation of linear motion systems, high-stiffness structures, kinematic mounts, Robot arms and custom stages.
  • Validation & Metrology: Define and execute the rigorous validation plan for system performance, focusing on precision metrology techniques to prove compliance with nanometer/micron-level specifications.
  • Leadership: Mentor and manage a team of engineers, driving projects through concept, detailed design (CAD/FEA), prototyping, testing, and industrial deployment.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Operations/Production, Electrical and Software teams to ensure seamless hardware/software integration, but maintain ultimate accountability for the mechanical system performance.
What do you need to be successful?

The ideal candidate has spent a significant portion of their career contributing directly to the design and development of automated systems and is now ready to lead.

  • Engineering Foundation: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics Engineering is required.
  • Leadership Track Record: Experience leading technical projects or small engineering teams from concept definition through to successful industrialization.
  • Hands-On Hardware Expertise: Deep, demonstrable experience in the design and development of precision positioning equipment such as CMMs, high-resolution 3D Printers, advanced robotics end-effectors, or similar tools.
  • Metrology Focus: Direct experience designing or implementing precision measurement and calibration methodologies to verify machine performance.
  • Core Technical Skills: Proven proficiency in Kinematic Design, Dynamic Analysis, Tolerance Stacking/GD&T, and material selection for high-accuracy applications.

Salary Range: $97,600 - $139,000
