We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the École Whitehorse Elementary School team . École Whitehorse Elementary is located within the traditional territory of the people of Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Ta'an Kwäch'än Council. École Whitehorse Elementary is a single-track French Immersion school, Grades K-7 with a student population of approximately 470. We have a dynamic, dedicated staff. Students enjoy specialty classes in the arts, outdoor education, library, Applied Design Skills Technology, movement and dance and Physical Education, all delivered in French. Students also have Southern Tuchone First Nations Language classes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
• Experience working with youth
• Fluency in both English and French

• Post-secondary training in educational assistant, exceptionality worker, special education assistant, or a related field would be considered an asset

• Experience working with youth with special needs would be considered an asset

• Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;
• Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;
• Ability to work as a member of a team;
• Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;
• Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments;
• Ability to work with minimal supervision;

Conditions of Employment

This is a designated position within the Yukon public service which requires the following condition(s) of employment:

• Successful applicants will be required to undergo a security clearance including vulnerable sector check.

• Standard First Aid Certificate or a willingness to complete within 3 months

• Completion of the Educational Assistant Module by the end of the school year.
