We are currently seeking a talented individual to join the Elijah Smith Elementary School team. ESES is a welcoming and inclusive environment where staff feel valued and supported. Located in the heart of Whitehorse, it offers rich opportunities to connect with Yukon First Nations cultures, especially through its focus on Southern Tutchone language and learning. The school fosters strong relationships among students, families, and educators, creating a vibrant and respectful learning community.This position provides the opportunity to be part of a dynamic and caring group of educators in a diverse school community. We are looking for Educational Assistants who will work under the direction of teachers and the school administration with students who have special education needs – both in regular academic programming and specialized special education programs.

Position: Temporary Education assistant

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: June 12, 2026

FTE: 1.0

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume, how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

• Grade 12 graduation or equivalent;
• Experience working with youth;
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with children/students with Autism Spectrum Disorder;
• Knowledge of child development, learning differences and inclusive education practices;
• Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services or Medical Services would be an asset
• Thorough knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder and characteristics of effective interventions such as Applied Behaviour Analysis would be considered an asset;
• Demonstrated ability to work at the level of independence and with the degree of initiative appropriate to the position.

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

• Ability to work effectively with students, teachers and parents;

• Adaptability to cope with a wide variety of situations;

• Ability to work as a member of a team;

• Good organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;

• Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments;

• Ability to work with minimal supervision;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

• Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provide before the first day of employment, dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
• Standard First Aid; to be provided within 3 months of the first day of employment
• Completion of the Education Assistant YG Learn course
