The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Civil & Construction Estimator to join our growing team. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and comprehensive cost estimates across a wide range of projects, including civil site development, excavation, underground services, residential and commercial renovations, and general construction – and that in projects ranging from new builds to renovations, from stand alone property development through to developing suburbs, from residential to commercial and/or industrial builds.
This position requires strong technical judgment, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to bridge field experience with analytical estimating expertise. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and manage detailed cost estimates for civil, earthworks and structural scopes.
- Interpret and analyze architectural, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical drawings and specifications.
- Perform accurate digital quantity takeoffs and evaluate site logistics, constructability, and geotechnical data.
- Solicit, review, and level subcontractor and supplier quotations across multiple trades.
- Prepare budgets, identify risks, and contribute to value engineering and pricing strategies.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients.
- Conduct site visits to validate bid assumptions and inform pricing accuracy.
- Maintain and refine historical cost data, productivity metrics, and unit pricing databases.
- Support project transitions by collaborating with project management and field operations teams.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5–7+ years of estimating experience in civil construction, property development, excavation, or other specialized trades.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
- Proficiency with estimating software (B2W, HeavyBid, ProCore, Bluebeam, PlanSwift, Excel), as well as project management software experience is an asset.
- In-depth knowledge of local construction markets, trade pricing, and industry trends.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple estimates under tight deadlines with accuracy and professionalism.
- Post-secondary education in construction management, civil engineering, or quantity surveying preferred.
- Previous field experience in civil construction & building collaborating with other trades (mechanical, electrical, HVAC) considered a strong asset.
