Reporting to the Chief Nursing Executive and Lead Clinical Practice Manager, Policy & Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC), the Infection Prevention and Clinical Coordinator oversees the effective and efficient operation of the Hospital's Infection Prevention & Control programs in accordance with recognized best practices and legislative requirements. As a role model and champion, the IPAC Coordinator will work to identify and integrate safe, best practices into daily activities to foster the delivery of quality care.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS- Adhere to policies and procedures established for the assigned department while supporting the Mission, Vision and Values of Erie Shores Healthcare
- Maintain the confidentiality of all patient/client information
- Develop infection control policies and priorities in consultation with key stakeholders to align with corporate focused health and safety topics
- Plan, organize, develop and direct the Hospital's IPAC program in accordance with current applicable federal, state and local standards
- Responsible for development, implementation, education and review of the IPAC and Clinical programs within the Hospital
- Manage the functioning of the health and safety and IPAC programs, including maintaining applicable documentation, establishing performance measures and analyzing and reporting on Infection Control program results and trends
- Management of surveillance, prevention, and control of infections hospital wide and will collaborate with other departments to ensure that optimal infection control practices delineated, shared, maintained, and regularly reviewed
- Monitor epidemiological significant issues among employees (in conjunction with occupational health) and patient population in comparison to the community with a concern to entity or facility preparedness
- Perform ongoing assessments to identify the risks for the acquisition and transmission of infectious agents. This includes the ongoing assessment of the population we serve, the organizations infection prevention and control data and the care, treatment and services provided
- Ensure that there are preventive, surveillance, and control procedures relating to sterilization, disinfection, and cleaning practices in all departments
- Act as a leader to nursing staff and health care team, regarding evidence based advanced nursing practice, problem based needs analysis and strategies for change
- Support Clinical teams in rolling out nursing education and professional development programs within the program/specialty area and across the corporation.
- Ensure IPAC education is in place and provided to all employees on an ongoing basis as needed
- Facilitate and/or participate in Hospital Committees including: Occupational Health & Safety, Accessibility Planning, Emergency Planning, Infection Control Committee, Product Evaluation, Space Planning and others as required
- Ensure legislatively required and hospital approved education is provided to all staff at time of onboarding and at regular intervals during employment
- Perform any other relevant duties as assigned
Undergraduate Degree in Health Promotion, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), or Registered Practical Nurse Diploma, or equivalent required.
Experience in hospital epidemiology principles, infectious diseases, sterilization, sanitation, and disinfection practices required
- Certification in Infection Control (CIC) within 1 year required
- 3 to 5 years of progressively responsible related experience in Infection Prevention and Control preferred
- Infection Control and Prevention continuing education and development course preferred
