About the Role
We're expanding our trading floor and looking for a proven lumber trader to drive growth across SYP, DF, and SPF in wholesale and distribution channels. You'll have the autonomy to build and lead a department—or grow a new vertical—when it aligns with Vantage's core competencies.
What You'll Do
As a Senior Lumber Trader, you will:
- Own a P&L: originate, price, hedge, and execute trades across SYP/DF/SPF.
- Expand revenue with mills, reloads, distribution networks, truss/wall panel, and select end users.
- Apply futures and related instruments to manage exposure; align hedges with cash and delivery timing.
- Use Vantage's proprietary software to quote fast, maintain price discipline, and track risk in real time.
- Build a durable pipeline with consistent call discipline and data-backed targeting.
- Partner with logistics to secure lanes, reduce friction, and increase turns.
- Mentor junior traders and help codify playbooks, pricing logic, and desk processes.
- Lead a desk/department: set targets, coach, and hire as we scale.
What You've Done
- 5–10+ years in lumber trading (wholesale/distribution) with a verifiable book.
- Deep product familiarity across SYP, DF, SPF—lengths, grades, tallies, and reload dynamics.
- Futures proficiency (hedging, basis, spreads) with real P&L accountability.
- Cross-border experience trading into the U.S. and/or Canada.
- Established mill and customer relationships; confident supply negotiation.
- Strong execution discipline: fast quoting, follow-through, and margin protection.
Nice to Have
- Mill sales background (readily convertible to trading flow).
- Experience standing up a new product line, region, or vertical.
- Solid CRM hygiene, pricing tools familiarity, and comfort with modern trading software.

- Standard start time of 6:30 AM, Monday to Friday.
