The Bonnyville Regional Fire Authority (BRFA) is seeking applications for Full Time, Part Time and Casual Emergency Communication Officers (ECO).

Hours of Work/Shifts:

  • 12-hour shifts, covering day and night shifts/ 7 days per week
  • Day Shifts: Shift A 6:00-18:00 or Shift B 6:30-18:30
  • Night Shifts: Shift A 18:00-6:00 or Shift B 18:30- 6:30

Wage:

  • Range from $29.27 to $38.47/ hour

Core Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Emergency Call Handling: Receive and prioritize high-stakes calls, gathering critical data and providing life-saving instructions under pressure.
  • Dispatching Emergency Services: Coordinate emergency units (Fire, Peace Officers, EMS) using CAD and radio systems while monitoring responder safety.
  • Information and Data Management: Maintain precise incident records in CAD and RMS systems, utilizing GIS and mapping tools for real-time accuracy.
  • Public Safety Support: Liaise with emergency service agencies, utilities, transportation, and other stakeholders during incidents.

Core Skills:

  • Crisis Communication & Empathy: Ability to speak clearly under pressure, practice active listening with distressed callers, and use de-escalation techniques while maintaining professional compassion.
  • Critical Decision-Making: Rapidly assess evolving situations, prioritize emergency resources, and maintain high situational awareness across multiple incidents.
  • Technical Command: Proficient in Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), radio protocols, multiline phone systems, and GIS mapping tools.
  • Operational Excellence: High attention to detail in documentation, seamless task-switching in fast-paced environments, and strict adherence to privacy and legal protocols (e.g., POPA).
  • Collaborative Mindset: A team-oriented professional who is adaptable to changing protocols and committed to ethical, confidential service.

Qualifications and Certifications:

  • Grade 12 diploma or equivalent
  • Standard First Aid, IAED Emergency Fire Dispatch Certification and Level C CPR is an asset
  • Previous Emergency Services experience is an asset
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and computer systems
  • Experience with Radio Communication and Telephone Systems
