Thank you for contacting the Government of Nunavut.
Please do not send sensitive or personal information, including (but not limited to): social insurance numbers, birthdates, information of other people, or health information. Please only send a brief description of your issue or concern and how we can contact you. We will make sure the correct person contacts you if they need more information or if they can answer your question or concern.
This employment opportunity is open to all applicants.

Under the supervision of the Manager of Teacher Education Programs, the incumbent is responsible for designing, delivering, and assessing Inuktut language and culture courses for students enrolled in the College's teacher education program. Instruction may occur at the Nunatta Campus or in various field locations across Nunavut. Additionally, the incumbent may be required to teach other subjects beyond Inuit language and culture, including Inuit History and Identity, teaching methods, and other selected courses.

Offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Education at Memorial University of Newfoundland, the Nunavut Teacher Education Program aims to graduate bilingual and culturally competent teachers. This role plays a key part in achieving that goal by providing students with in-depth knowledge and skills in Inuit language and culture. Additionally, the incumbent will offer recommendations on integrating Inuktut and Inuit culture into all courses within the program.

The ideal candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in education or in a discipline appropriate to program offerings. Instructional experience at the elementary level and experience instructing and supervising adult learners in a post-secondary setting. Fluency in both oral and written Inuktut is required. Familiarity with the Memorial University of Newfoundland Bachelor of Education, Inuktut Language, Inuit cultural studies, and Inuit History and Identity courses of the B. Ed. Program is an asset.

As this is a term position for non-Inuit candidates, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.

Short-listed candidates may undergo a vulnerable sector check as necessitated by the demographics of the learners participating in the program.

An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • The Government of Nunavut is committed to creating a more representative workforce so it can better understand and serve the needs of Nunavummiut. Priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit. Candidates must clearly identify their eligibility in order to receive priority consideration under the Nunavut Priority Hiring Policy.
  • Employment in some positions requires an acceptable criminal record check. Possession of a criminal record will not necessarily disqualify candidates from further consideration.
  • Applicants may submit their resume in the Official Language of their choice.
  • Eligibility list may be created to fill future vacancies.
  • Job descriptions may be obtained by fax, email or on the website.
  • Only those candidates selected for an interview will be contacted.
