Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Junior Law Clerk to join our team. In this role, you will support our legal team by conducting research, drafting legal documents, and managing administrative tasks. Your contributions will be vital in helping us achieve our clients' goals while minimizing their exposure to liability.

Responsibilities

  • Provide legal and administrative support in both real estate and corporate law matters.
  • Work onsite at the Orangeville office, Monday through Friday.
  • Organize, plan, and prioritize daily tasks based on operational needs.
  • Prepare, file, and submit applications and required documentation through the Canada Revenue Agency's online portal, relevant provincial ministries, and track the progress of filings.
  • Draft legal and corporate documents, including correspondence, agreements, resolutions, minute book materials, government filings, and by-laws.
  • Review incoming correspondence, assess urgency, and coordinate appropriate responses with the lawyer.
  • Manage the lawyer's calendar by reviewing it daily, scheduling upcoming events, and anticipating future requirements.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date information in the firm's document management system.
  • Communicate with prospective clients to arrange initial consultations or meetings with the responsible lawyer.
  • Oversee all stages of residential and commercial real estate transactions from inception to completion.
  • Prepare, review, and process real estate documentation, including agreements of purchase and sale, mortgage instructions, title searches, and closing packages.
  • Conduct comprehensive due diligence, including title and off-title searches, and review surveys, zoning information, and corporate records.
  • Coordinate with clients, realtors, lenders, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and workflow throughout each transaction.
  • Assist lawyers in preparing closing agendas, statements of adjustments, closing reports, and related documentation.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable legislation, regulatory requirements, and firm procedures, and perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

  • Law Clerk Diploma or equivalent certification from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a real estate or corporate/commercial law clerk, preferably in a law firm setting.
  • Knowledge of Ontario real estate law and transaction procedures is an asset.
  • Proficiency in legal software such as Teraview, Soluno, and Closer Conveyancing would be considered an asset.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle high-pressure situations and meet tight deadlines.
