Position Summary:

The Plant Manager is responsible for overseeing daily plant operations, ensuring efficient production processes, maintaining the highest quality standards, managing costs and leading personnel. Generally, directs the plant through supervision, sharing information, and taking or directing corrective action as required. This position reports to the Senior Director of Operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Champion Safety and Wellness
  • Build a safety culture and manage a safe work environment for all associates; Return to Work, Risk Assessment and Accident Investigations.
  • Participation in ongoing Safety and Wellness training and audits.
Manage the Business
  • Possess analytic and problem-solving skills with understanding of how to resolve complex operational issues.
  • Proven track record of meeting Key Performance Indicators and knowledge of performance metrics.
  • Creates and executes a strategy to meet business metrics including line efficacy, waste and overhead expenses.
  • Manage large capital projects including new equipment installations, upgrades and overhauling.
  • Responsible for the budget planning process, production planning and scheduling.
Develop our People
  • Train, coach, mentor and develop the salaried management team to perform optimally in current role and prepare for future challenges.
  • Manage direct reports' performance and hold them accountable to meet KPIs and expectations.
  • Hire and top-grade talent based on requirements of the business.
  • Resolve conflict and influence others to align with overall business objectives.
  • Work collaboratively with the Union, leveraging past experience in labour relations, grievance and collective bargaining
  • Responsible for managing associates' performance and training needs effectively.
Ensure Quality & Food Safety standards are met and exceeded
  • Food safety knowledge; BRC, GFSI and HACCP.
  • Create an environment where facility is "BRC ready" every day.
  • Ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining product integrity, practicing highest levels of GMP's and conforming to HACCP pre-requisite program and all associated SOP's.
  • Partner with site Quality Assurance lead, ensuring food safety and quality are always maintained through a rigorous QA program.
Manage Direct Costs and Overhead Expenses
  • Control materials and labour costs of products.
  • Ensure that all departmental costs are controlled and budgets met (Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, Quality Assurance, Plant Outbound).
Implement Lean Manufacturing Best Practices
  • Implement a culture of continuous improvement, 5S and process control.
  • Drive / encourage work area ownership on team that exceeds expected levels of cleanliness and orderliness.
  • Champion Grupo Bimbo Lean System at facility with support from corporate Lean Manufacturing team.
Decision Making Responsibilities:
  • Staffing, capital requirements & utilization, maintenance repair decisions, production requirements, budgeting and all decisions affecting the Langley operations (either directly or as part of the integrated Western Canada manufacturing network).
Job Dimensions: Financial & Non-Financial
  • Manage the budget for the facility
  • Manage a multi-line plant and all associated responsibilities, including plant safety, capital project management and implementation, lean manufacturing support, and people development

Experience & Education:
  •  Must be degree qualified with 6+ years of progressive plant management experience preferably within a large food manufacturing plant.
  • Demonstrated experience and deep understanding in the operation of food manufacturing facilities, ideally bakery. 
  • Relentless desire to improve processes and optimize resources. 
  • Must have a proven track record in financial control and experience managing large capital and operating budgets.
  • Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must have proven experience with planning and scheduling of hourly and salaried staff.
  • Strong and effective people leadership, development and management skills, self-motivated with a focus towards achieving results through KPIs and knowledge of performance metrics, safety systems and processes.
  • Ability to identify opportunities and follow through on the execution and improvement.
  • Relevant labour relations experience and a proven safety track record.
  • Demonstrated control and containment of costs.
  • Ability to work as part of a talented operations team and align as a total business with all key stakeholders, business units and departments. 
The annual salary range for applicants is $120,0000 - $150,000.00, which does not include discretionary bonus compensation or our comprehensive benefits package. Actual compensation offered to the successful candidate may vary from posted hiring range based upon geographic location, work experience, education, and/or skill level, among other factors.
