Job Summary:

Buy Low Foods Discount is seeking a dynamic, motivated, and experienced individual to lead our Meat Department. The Meat supervisor will oversee day-to-day operations, ensure high standards of product quality and presentation, lead a cohesive and productive team, and help drive sales and profitability. This role requires hands-on leadership, strong merchandising skills, and a passion for delivering exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:

· Department Leadership & Supervision

· Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and mentor Meat Department staff.

· Provide clear direction, delegate tasks, and motivate the team to meet performance and operational targets.

· Foster a respectful, supportive, and safety-oriented workplace culture.

Operational Excellence

· Ensure the Meat Department is well-stocked, clean, and visually appealing.

· Maintain high standards for product freshness, quality, labeling, and food safety.

· Accurately manage inventory, complete orders in a timely manner, and liaise with vendors to ensure consistent supply and timely deliveries.

· Monitor and control shrink, waste, and margin to support profitability.

Customer Experience

· Lead by example in delivering friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient customer service.

· Handle customer inquiries, requests, and concerns in a professional and timely manner.

· Ensure the department is engaging and approachable for customers, enhancing their shopping experience.

Safety & Compliance

· Promote and maintain a safe and clean working environment.

· Ensure all employees adhere to health, safety, and sanitation regulations.

· Lead by example with proper knife handling and meat-cutting procedures.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

· Work closely with other Department Managers and the Store Manager to achieve overall store success.

· Participate actively in store leadership meetings and contribute to strategy, planning, and execution.

Administrative Duties

· Perform key-holding duties including managing the store safe and alarm system when required.

· Maintain proper records of inventory, ordering, , and team performance.

Skills and Qualifications:

· Proven experience in meat cutting and meat department operations.

· Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.

· Prior supervisory or managerial experience in a retail grocery environment.

· Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.

· Exceptional organizational, communication, and conflict-resolution skills scheduling.

· Strong merchandising experience with a focus on quality and presentation.

· Ability to meet physical demands including lifting, standing, bending, and repetitive tasks.

· Comfortable working flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

· Excellent command of the English language, both verbal and written.

Work Conditions & Physical Requirements:

· Ability to stand and walk for extended periods; frequent bending, twisting, crouching, and kneeling.

· Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs and performing repetitive, physically demanding tasks.

· Must have good manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and attention to detail.
